Yeah, really. A majority of the people I played Blizzard DOTA against this past weekend were assholes. I felt really bad for the people who had never played any DOTA game before or specifically this version of it. At one point I even looked over and saw one guy flipping off some guy he was sitting across from who just looked confused. Needless to say there was a lot of trash-talking.
I'm looking forward to playing more Blizzard DOTA when it is released, but I'm really dreading having to deal with all the fuckheads that will come with it. At least Blizz removed the Kills/Deaths/Assists feature.
I actually stopped playing DOTA before it became like that. Though I didn't play DOTA much (I preferred Tides of Blood)... My problem with DOTA was that it's just a boring math game to me. You sit around the creeps farming EXP trying not to die then you HAVE to know exactly what item to get at what time. And god forbid you leave the battlefield for 5s (to look at items) and suddenly all of the other heroes are 5 levels above. But people seem to love this form of gameplay so who am I to judge lol.
Blizzard DOTA might be succumb to the same thing though. At least not initially (probably) which'll be fun!
I am interested of all the stuff they talk about in blizzcon, but still cant see myself going to there if I dont win somekind of competition (that would be sweet to win something like that :D)
And since you can gain ladderpoints (atleast so they said) in dota. I believe there will be matchmaking for it and so should be for other customs too!!!! or atleast give option to include something like reading banks/rank in lobby. This is like the n.1 feature Iv been wishing for since wc3....it just make games more fun atleast if the games have high skill factor.
I finished the Blizzard DOTA article... .You can find it here if you're interested. Sixen's officially back from his trip, so you can expect additional articles coming soon.
Weird how game and competition are measured.. while having to go hand in hand... Ffunny how a good game breeds lots of fun and hard work (dedication even) from players.. and while a competitive game should be a good game and therefore should be fun.. it is not so often the case, is it? (and i do mean the demeanor of "unknown online vocal" players.. cause of course most players don't interact past glhf or such).
Thing is.. those "elitist" agressive (or whatever you want to call them) players need other players, otherwise they are not going to play... (that is .. on multiplayer games), how can they be as blinded to that fact is beyond my understanding..???
(well past being dumb fucks or thinking that the internet is meant for venting (again, back to dumb fucks).. rrr [bad seed need love too] rrr.. anyway)).
i have to teach my kid to share his toys and to push him towards new "unknown "toys" ".. hard business!! Humans are mostly reactionary by nature .. and furthermore .. they are not the sharing kind...
What surprises me most is the attitude i've seen so often: why would you want to share the secret of playing/using a cool thing with new people unless you have to? .. counter productive attitude if i've ever seen one.
And i feel it is only getting worse with every new generation of "players" (or humans in general).. while the fact remains clear as it can be.. you need several people to play multiplayer games.. to do societal stuff.
Any power is defined by the number of people you have this power over.. a player's greatness is measured with other players (the audience so to say)
..a "newb" (noob.. whatever other derogatory term used) is a beginner.. nothing to be ashamed of or lessen by.. quite the contrary in fact... A beginner .. most often is someone who is enlarging the pallet of his interests.. no?
ps: dota sucks as much as wow does, just kidding :^p but definitely not meant for casual playing and particularly difficult to get into while playing other games a lot (needs lots of time dedicated to it, one needs to follow its evolution closely, need to get into a crowd etc...)
The problem is not specific to DOTA though. Almost every game can be full of overly-aggressive, trash-talking idiots. The reason DOTA is so bad is because it's such a disadvantage to have a newbie on your team- it's often better to just be down a player than have a newbie. Which causes players to be even more unfriendly to newbies. The DOTA formula is just built that way. I feel like Blizzard' changes will certainly make the game approachable to casual players... But we will see ;)

Thats one issue Im a little afraid, but keep in mind its not final. I hope they will add more maps to new and noteworthy (and possibly rotation?). But good thing is that popular not much played maps should be visible. Like smascraft.
And make the fun and not visible so people would join that...(already posted my suggestions somewhere).
Maps what are sold also should have a set amount of trial time before user is required to buy it to play a more with that account but of course would let to finish the match if a trial time runs out during it. Blizzard could also make it so that a more the mapper asks from own map, longer is the trial time.
So many details are still unclear about a paid maps. It is clear that their standards of what they consider a map what can be sold, is a vastly lower than originally intended.
I'm almost finished with the Campagin Article. Well, I WAS finished until chrome crashed and deleted half my gigantic post. But I'll have it finished and posted up soon.

This is not true. I actually asked about how they want to restrict access to the Arcade Marketplace. Currently, this entails a tiered system where depending on which price you are aiming for, the level of quality expected is different. If you're trying to sell a $1 mini-game, it will be considerably easier to achieve than a $20 RPG with a story lasting 20+ hours.
They don't plan on saying "you need X things and then you can get in at Y price."

Not sure if trolling or serious....
not sure why you are not sure... maybe there is a misunderstanding but I'm pretty serious about my concerns
