i'm just a casual gamer who wants to play some nice TDs sometimes. Now, the new, superb, artificial, extraordinary, ... *sigh* battle.net 2.0 makes me go insane!
I just tell you a situation, please give me some tipps how to handle this:
- I searched this site for some nice TDs
- I found Cube Defense, which one i want to try out
- I search the battle.net ingame for this map, the only version i found (after 5mins of scrolling down the list) is 1.0
- Newest Version on this site is 1.3
- So i download it here, put it into the maps folder, creating a new game.... oh wait! There is no maps folder.
- Allright, about 5mins of google'ing later i found out how to do this, open the editor, publish it by myself...
Stop now!!!
I don't want to publish it by myself! My name is listed in the author tab! i don't want this!
Problems are: At first the map is located in the list at the boooottoooom end after i publish this, makes finding buddies to play with hard.
Second, if the map will do it to get played frequently, my name as author will be shown at everyone, so no, i don't want that!
And now, please tell a newbish casual like me if i'm doing something wrong, if there is another way to play this map on bnet. Just like in WC3, load it, wait 5 secs until enough buddies joined and all players have loaded the map, and just play it.
Another Question:
Is there a "hidden-"press IDKFA"-search mode" in the bnet games overview? Always scrolling down is a little bit exhausting all the time.
Thanks everyone who wants to help me out, thanks everyone who ignores the fact that there may be 30billions threads similar to mine out there, just taking 5mins of google'ing for the right terms to find it (yes i tried, no i didn't find something).
Welcome to the wonders of the popularity system! The only way for you to play that map online is to publish it - either privately or publicly.
So lets suppose you decide to play it publicly - you can put the real author's name in the description, I'm sure he would understand, right? So you go ahead and publish it, but guess what - your map is at the bottom of 20 pages of unplayed maps. You could literally sit in the lobby for days and not a single person would join. Your only option is to invite some people from your friends list. Don't have any friends online? Looks like you're playing alone tonight. Better get used to it! You'll need about 18-40 different games played within the hour, each with different people to even hope of getting random players to join.
It gets better! A few weeks down the line; the mapmaker takes the time to localize it and gets his friend to upload it onto the new server. But wait! He can't anymore - the map has already been published by another person! You've gone and stolen the credit for a map that no-one will ever play - you monster!
I'm probably being too cynical, but to me and many other players the current custom game system is significantly flawed. Hopefully when the content patches roll out, they'll start improving this area.
Yup. popularity stinks. Blizzard will probably fix it since they have a massive amount of complaints on thier site, but callex cold you explain why map makers cannot upload thier own maps?

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
I believe publishing is region-locked. So in order a mapper to publish a map on a different realm, they would need another person with an account on that realm to upload it for them. (In the above post I assumed that the map wasn't already uploaded because it was made in a different region.) Even if you could upload directly to a different realm, nobody would be able to play it anyway.
