Well, truth be told, the symmetry tool was something Blizzard should've learned from SCMDraft, when it introduced that and copy/pasting individual sprites to make extended, long bridges, larger cliffs and stuff. I only wondered what took them so long to introduce something that should've been available since Wings of Liberty. After all, for people making melee maps, and those concern equal distribution, symmetry tool is a paramount thing.
Yeah, decals are textures applied to the surface of the terrain, not surprised there, though it would be nice if they could be lifted off the terrain (new asset anyone?). I am just exited because I can finally go into lots of little detail work on terrain. Wreaked room? now I can tip over the chairs, knock over the tables. on a slight rise? I can now tilt doodads to compensate for the slope making it a bit more realistic. Heck I can now make Stalactite!! (as seen in a recant submission to the WTE)
I can tilt things up against other objects, giving the terrain that just a bit more stylistic or realistic flare to it. Also! ceilings are no longer limited to the 5 or 6 doodads that have a flat (ish) underbelly to them that is fully textured, we now have over 1000 doodads that can archive the act of a ceiling!! terrains are no longer limited to the way the actor is facing, it can now easily be tilted into the position as needed.
and yes I am aware that it was possible to tilt doodads with certain site operations, but I only achieved this one or two times after a bit of effort. It can now be done in 5 - 10 seconds with any doodad. The symmetry tool as well would have saved me some painstaking work on certain terrains, I forgot that Scmdraft had that option and I remember using it now that I think back hahaha.
I was looking at the textures and decided to see how it will no with the symmetry on, is slow but going and working with the regular ADD TEXTURE but when i try the FILL TEXTURE with the diagonal eight way my editor when in to a freeze mode. I had to close the program and start again with out the symmetry.
Map symmetry + pitch & roll can make for some very interesting terrains. You can also set custom bounds for symmetry.

Unfortunately you can't rotate decals, they just stretch.

did not think if that, surprised they didn't disable the fill texture option if it crashed upon use.
