What was halairus is I played it the first time, and I was like "woa- the units formed that symbol..i wonder if thats why it got taken out? Nahh..Thats ridiculous"..I stand corrected. I understand Thats offensive to people, but units on the minimap can form whatever symbol they want to! lol..its blizzards pathing system! lol...at least it wasnt the words that got it taken out.

So wait ? If you are playing melee game, and units form some symbol caused by pathing (that is programmed by blizzard programmers) game will be banned ?
I think map should be banned if anyone isnt complaining. But I dont care really. I can respect their rights...
[rage]
Jesus, It's NOT Blizzard's pathing that makes the units move in a swastika-shaped form. It's clearly Cyrileo's work, as he set-up his triggers in a way that makes EVERY wave ALWAYS move that way.
That's like I place some buildings in a swastika shape and say "Hell, it's Blizzard's buildings. Not my fault that they're in that shape." Do you guys even read what you're writing here? Once something happens people always freak out and exaggerate it into oblivion!
There's nothing wrong in criticizing Blizzard's actions, but please pleease stay with the facts.
Blizzard will obviously not ban a map just because your units could maybe happen to form a inapropriate symbol. Everyone who really thinks that should get their brain examined, as there's apparently something wrong with it.
guess thats how activision can further increase revenues? by making map makers buy several accounts to publish maps, in case on of their maps accidentally has some units move in certain directions?
And this is stupid enough to deserve it's own quote!
When Blizzard gives away free copies of SC2 it's because they want more people to get addicted to their games so they can squeeze the last bit of money out of it!
Blizzard didn't give us the editor because they're nice to us. They want us to do maps (and then steal them from us muhahahar!) so people would play SC2 longer!
Leaving Battle.net as a free-to-play service was obviously just a vicious move to make more people buy the game so they could leech even MORE money once they introduce micro payments!
Is there actually anything Blizzard's doing where people NOT immediately refer to how they can get money out of it?
[/rage]
Now, I don't think it was intended. And I also think that banning that map for something like that is kinda unfair.
Blizzard still thought it was necessary to remove this map and I can see why. Though they're overcautious in my opinion.
Anf fixing that is easy, too. Just let the units pause 2 seconds before they move towards the middle. They'll gather as a ball and not form that evil sign that kills babies and kittens.
Uhm, you guys know that this "swastika" has not only one meaning? In japan (i think its japan) its actually the common symbol for the sun.
That's not just in Japan. The history of the swastika is actually pretty interesting. It was a positive symbol in many cultures before WW2, and it's now universally recognized as a symbol of hatred, evil, and racism.
The swatsika means literally "moving forward". The fact the Nazis used it is what makes people so angry about it.
It's just symbol like any other, and it really ticks me off that some people are so naive and so sensible to a symbol. Hey, those nazis existed, why are we so afraid to acknowledge that? It's as if we fear that we might be like them. Who is like that today? I know I'm not, so I have no reason to fear the swatsika. And a reverse swatsika is NOT a swatsika either. It's like homophobia. I don't have it, because I know I'm not homosexual and even if I was, why would I fear it, if that's what made me happy? I'm not afraid if some homosexual would be into me. It's almost the same feeling I get with the swatsika. It's just a symbol and I am not racist, so why should I cower in fear when I see it? Why is it so immoral, if it's just a symbol? You can use a spoon as a symbol for your empire and kill everyone that doesn't have a red nose. Would spoons be outlawed? Is that the solution to the violence expressed by this "empire"? I doubt it.
It's like someone used the word "fuck" in a sentence and the people who overheard died of a heart attack. Why are people so serious about such things, yet when they hear about people dying on the news they're all like "who cares?".
Anyways, I think they should give you the reason if you ask for it. But I guess they don't want to because then they'd feel obliged to give an answer to any person who's map gets deleted, and they might have to delete hundreds of them daily. That way, by not giving you an answer, they don't have any responsibility to give an explanation to everyone who's map gets removed. Otherwise it would give reason to every map maker to whine, spam them with questions and requests and even follow them to court, if they want to go that far. It's too much time wasted for Blizzard and the moderators on the forums are those who check the maps usually. It takes lots of time and it's a repetitive task, and they have other things to take care of, too. Being a community manager (like Karune, Xordiah and the rest) is not an easy job, I can attest to that; I know a guy who is a community manager and he's got his hands very busy every day.
Sometimes there's also the mentality that goes like "You know what you did. You're just pretending not to know to avoid the consequences. If we saw it, you know what you did wrong." And that's not a good argument. We're human and we don't see everything. But, this happens rarely and is not a promoted philosophy within the game's team and the community managers. (Not sure I used the right words...)
Glad you were able to get it re uploaded. I really enjoy this map! Still haven't beat it yet as I always tend to have 1 or 2 allies who just can't hold their own.
It might just be a symbol, and it also might have a lot of meanings. But it reminds people of the 3rd Reich, that's what counts.
I'm generally a pretty sarcastic guy. I make jokes about everything, including nazis, jews and all that stuff (which, as a German, is already pretty much of a sacrilege..). Well, most of my friends don't care about that, but I have a polish friend, about my age, who's lost his grandparents during the War. I think it even was in a concentration camp.
And even though he knows about the different meanings of the swastika it's still anything but a pleasant memory for him, as you can guess.
So for some people it's not just a symbol. However, most of the people are probably just swastika-phobic ~
Also, even though I usually don't give a damn, even I would be displeased seeing people start wearing swastikas with or on them as a sign of bhuddism or hinduism or whatnot.
And yea, if some organisation conquers a quarter of the world and murders millions of people in the name of the Great Spoon, I think people will stop having soup for dinner for a looong looong time.
Symbols are symbols they can mean anything you damn well please. I wouldn't be surprised if more maps get pulls for symbols that appear to be racial even though there not. However my question is this...
Did he actually meant for them to move like that or was it an accident and he just kept it? Cause if he just mad units in random spots and moved them randomly then he shouldn't be at fault. It all comes down to what was coded and not coded.
Next your going to see the make your own drawing maps pulled cause you have the option to make a symbol like that. On the side note Blizzard even admits that online interaction is unrated.
Actually yes, its not "negative" symbol. Just coz someone used it while doing bad things.
Its same as placing some shirt as bad thing coz some killer had it...
Actully Hitler had it coz he tough it brings luck.
"The word swastika is derived from the Sanskrit word svastika (in Devanagari स्वस्तिक), meaning any lucky or auspicious object, and in particular a mark made on persons and things to denote good luck"
Buddism uses that symbol alot, in fact many current day Chinese or Japanese maps still use that symbol to denote a Buddist temple
(and btw about the Activision banning map makers to generate more profit, Stevie Colbert Super sarcasm meter should have alarmed there, obviously Blizz doesnt ban map makers for arbitrary reasons to make people buy more copies; this was relating to the "joke" of mass maphack banning in warcraft 3 back in the day to make people buy more copies)
I just kind of scanned the thread. This is leading me to believe that maybe we should not use Blizzard's publishing system directly. Publish to a third party site, such as this site, where the map is available for download. If it is truly popular, then people will publish it themselves onto bnet in order to play the multiplayer aspects. This way you get a true feeling on how popular a map is, instead of trusting Blizzard's own popularity system that probably doesn't work anyway, providing that it acts like most systems of its kind (they all don't work). Plus this bypasses the five map limit that Blizzard supposedly has in place.
If it is a single player map, then why bother putting it on bnet? A single player map published on a third party site cannot be censored by Blizzard.
all I have to say is thank you for making the mapping community defend you… Without telling us making us all look like jack-asses OBV having a swastika without saying anything would be considered raciest. They only killed millions of a certain group of people.
I also would like to say I believe its people that do this kind of stuff that makes it so blizzard is being so strict now…
So again I THANKYOU.. For helping the mapping community in such a positive way! ( I would say so much more if this was not a forum )

Hey, i kinda like nazis and love my units forming a swastika, COMPLETELY not understandable why blizzard deleted it in the first place.
facepalm on that stupidity

Yes, and idiots who like their units to form it would with 100% safety not even know that symbol without the NS

if you have hero units with japanese names you probably will lol
