@Lonami: Go
I don't understand how people don't get it by now.
Ok, again for all the noobs not knowing why the actual system sucks:
I want to play map "xyz".
The map "xyz" is at the moment not on the first 1-3 pages.
Guess what?
I CAN'T PLAY IT!
Impossible without spaming it in all chat channels.
So whats the point of a battlenet to play custom maps, when I only can play maps on the first 1-2 pages...
wanna see what happened with Blizzdota.
Killin Kerrigan with a blademaster :D
But I won't participate to Blizzcon for one reason, I dont't want any spoil.
@h34dl4g kk I get what you mean. Like sending a mass message to all our friends wouldn't be enought to have them join in, because they can't target YOUR map in particular. For them to join, you must send them invite all invite one per one.
Is that what you meant?
If so, what do you suggest?
EDIT: Just want to add that I'm happy with the actual custom map system and I find it better than wc3 one. I won't describe why, that's my opinion.
Don't care anymore, I'll believe it when I see it. Blizzard had a year to properly talk to the modder community about this stuff. But, they seem to not give a fuck, just really dumb or resent us all together.
I find it ironic how, they complained about WC3 DotA Popularity, but, created their own popularity list with SC2. Its like, WC3 customs were bad because DotA, footmen frenzy, etc was popular. But, its completely OK, to have only 5-8 popular maps for SC2 that are the only option to play.
I mean, really, sometimes I wonder how these people make money at all with decisions like that.
The explanation is easy: they were good before, and dumb fuck fanboys will still see them as good no matter what. Until they really ruin their own games, fanboys won't stop defending them. Fanboys and retards (those who love CoD:MW2, a "success" of a product, but a FAIL of a game) ruin the industry.
Also, they probably have some marketing bullshit behind them, telling to take x or y decision because z or w stupid reason. That's the only answer I have, because they don't look like they are mentally retarded at all. No need to be a genius to understand you're forcing bullshit into your game (I still remember the "force Real ID on forums" crap, that was just terrible, and confirmed completely how deep has fallen Blizzard).
I make an RPG with several zones, featuring levels 1-60. Experienced
players want to host 'level 40+ doing X boss run', whereas many other
players are wanting to do 'New players only < level 10' and so forth.
As a map creator I can't predict all of this with 'game modes' or
'categories'. Having players able to name their games is a solution.
Thoughts?
Make modes appear in the popularity list (I think it already does, or maybe I'm confusing it with one of the old bugs).
I think one of the things blizzard wanted to do with custom games in this one was to ensure it was easy and simple for players to play any game. In BW, if there was a good game, but no one was hosting it, and you dont have it, you can't play it. It also saves less computer savvy players from wondering which game is which when trying to host a certain map. Especially since there were a lot of different versions. It was also very hard to join some of the popular games, and hard for new players to learn games, because you were often booted if you were a noob, and yet there may not be versions of the games for noobs.
Now, if they could strike a good balance between the old system and new one, it would be perfect for everyone. How you do that? Im not entirely sure, but I'm sure Blizzard reads suggestions.
As a more on topic note, thanks for the interview, gets me more excited for Blizzcon lol since they can't say anything fun until then.

An extra list, where "games with not-full lobbies" are displayed. That way, you can see what unpopular maps have people inside, and people can see you're waiting in a lobby when they join it, without needing to spam chat channels to ask for people.

To add to this. it would also make more sense if the Host map button would be in the Custom Map list section. This would make players think twice before they host a new map instead of joining an existing lobby.
I actually wouldn't mind those additions you guys were talking about. Something like that would be perfect, so people waiting for someone to join, won't be waiting forever at least. It might also help with beta tests for new games. I wonder though how the popularity list might be affected if the total number of games played (as opposed to total hours played) were a deciding factor in popularity. I wonder if the popularity list would change more often or less frequently, because ultimately, having the popularity list change would be a good way to get people to try new maps they otherwise might not have seen.
