Starmap models were apparently inserted in the game files at one point or another. They can be used with cameras to get a pretty nice view of the planets. There also a broodlord portait in here for additional concept ideas.
Note: If you havent explored the game models yet, the actual planets are teeny tiny, smaller than a zergling with a huge hemisphere backdrop for stars and a flat square for detailed backdrops. I also didnt take the time for the views to be perfect, just enough so that it fills up the screen.
Another note: With this method, one could make a psuedo-starmap with these models placed somewhere secluded in a corner and the use of dialogs. You could also get screen-sized portaits for anything you might desire, like a story or hero selection. (flip through faces until you reach the hero you want to use, or something like that.
- Updated with Monlyth which was quite odd, it has an duplicate directly behind it which cannot be seen when looked at with the intended lighting
I've already seen the 4 planets in the previewer, but what is this broodlord portrait you mentioned? the only broodlord portrait I know of, is... the actual brood lord portrait, under portraits -> zerg, and thats not new.
EDIT: ahh checked out the map, pretty nice.
The portrait is just a portrait so nvm :)
btw, you forgot to put in one of the planets, there are 4 of them if i remember correctly.
After going through several herp derp moments, i have discovered (probably not the first) that blizz may be using the starmaps for their planet loading screens. Go look at the few we have in the editor and then look at the loading screens. Notably Monlyth, same lighting effects and everything. Char has the floating metal hanging there too.
Just making this statement, as i havent seen anyone else say it.

Nice. :)
Whatever you do, wholeheartedly, moment by heartfelt moment, becomes a tool for the expression of your very soul.
Yeah, really nice job acid, :D.
