Does such exist? I do need it because for my missions it is important to comply with lore and to see how long it takes between different planets. So far I've been using this
and this
But that just isn't good. I wanted to see something as it is originally in lore like there was something from Blizzard Allstars
Since I am not into the Campaign of HotS yet, is there a starmap designed by Blizzard already?
I dont think there is one. I've been thinking of creating one myself, but its hard. You have to study lore quite a bit. Also the scale could be a problem. The Korprulu sector is probably not that large in comparison with the entire galaxy. The Zerg homeworld is supposed to be located a really long distance away from it, just like earth. Don't know how to solve that scaling issue :)
I'll take credit for this bit of ugly; I designed it for an old RPG. It is a rough estimate as to the location of known worlds of the Koprulu Sector based on WoL. I'm kinda surprised it's still around. I guess the internet keeps everything.
I don't think an official map of the Koprulu sector exists, not one that can be considered in any way accurate at any rate. Blizz just hasn't released one, and they may not.
With Blizzard spitting out new planets like they are Id say its impossible.
Agreed here. Instead of reusing many of the old planets, Blizzard is just creating new ones to suit its needs. I don't think Blizzard even keeps a map for themselves. They do not have to bother with travel times and are quite likely too lazy or unmotivated to make a map.
Also, I'm backing Orloth's statement. That map was made for an old forum RPG on the sc2 Armory about 2 years ago.
If you really want consistent and exact travel times, make your own map or use what's up there. You're not getting anything from Blizzard.
The lore is pretty (and I think deliberately) fuzzy on what planets are in the same solar systems. Like, is Korhal in the same system as Aiur? Who knows. It stands to reason that Char and Shakuras are very distant from the likes of Tarsonis and other "main story" planets, and one solar system having like all 50 planets mentioned is pretty unlikely.
@Bilxor: Go Well, it isn't 'that' fuzzy. We know the planets that are in the same system, and those are rare, such as the Tyrador VIII and IX, and the Sara system with Chau and Mar Sara. There may be some cases we don't know for sure, but most of the known planets are in their own systems.
Thanks! I've never come across that video, it certainly show something not seen so far. Like why didn't we see that in WoL campaign or does it exist there? I remember maybe it was after the Mar Sara missions when Raynor enters aboard the Hyperion and the first time they open the Starmap there was some planets? Not sure if the video is exactly that but I will check that out after the Mar Sara missions, the cinematic.
The video itself is kind of blurry indeed. And I thought Blizzard were going to release with HotS a clear Starmap of the system, so I've heard. Might as well request it from Blizzard to release such a thing, I thought in HotS it was gonna be there, looks like it's not.
So I just found this tread on the internet and though I not make an account and show you my planetary map of the Koprulu Sector. I designed it a couple of years ago when I was still making a mod for SC:BW and the map was necessary for the player to have an idea how much has been traveled since the start of the campaign. Eventually the mod was never released because the voice acting was incomplete (about 95% progress the mod was gonna be close to 1gb). But the interesting thing is the map was later reused when me and a friend began work on a mod for SC2 after it released. We planed on making an open-world like campaign replay of the original game for SC2 with the new engine and graphics. We even had some of the maps remade 1/1 scale into the SC2 editor. So the last thing we wanted to do is make a really impressive planetary map on which you can just click on a planet and send your forces to fight for you. And that is where we failed... But hell it was fun and I still have the map I made so I thought I'd share :).
Hey thanks for bringing that up. I created a thread about it in the EU's campaign forum around the same time I started this thread. I think with it going down the pages Blizz are like 'meh no one needs such map, just few ppl, not gonna make it'. I tried vieweing the video posted above, but the low resolution makes it undreadable. This thread actually gathers quite useful pics and pieces of info about possibly how it looks. Personally, a starmap of the sector is something I use quite often.
I remember this pic above but how is the information about it gathered? Earth and the Solar system are way outside, so why are they given within this galaxy? Maybe the Solar system is one tiny dot thousands of light years away from this part of the galaxy.
When I first came across this picture I did not find it useful but provided it is accurate, I can use some locations, Still, Blizzard needs to break these locations down to planets/
Korpulu Sector = 60,000 light years from Earth, on the fringe of the galaxy. Zerus is near the galactic core. I'm quite sure Protoss space is within the Korpulu Sector, without any overlap. Dinares Sector is where the pre-Zerg Mutalisks came from. I don't think there's an established location for it. But it would probably be in the path of Zerus to Korpulu like in that image.
They seem to just constantly invent new planets though out of nowhere, just like in Heart of the Swarm. Making a starmap will take away their liberty to keep making new planets.
So Blizzard will be retconning too many things for a starmap to ever appear. For one, Char was originally an uninhabited world, unexplored and unnamed. Jim Raynor was the one to name it. Now, it was a Confederate core-world that had major fighting during the Guild Wars. Blizzard has to stop retconning before a starmap comes out, and that will not happen.
But:
1) Yes, there are separate systems.
The 'Braxis' we all know about is quite certainly not the only planet in its' system. Braxis Alpha, remember?
The 'Korhal' we all know about is Korhal IV; the fourth planet (or fourth planet called Korhal) in its' system.
Mar Sara and Chau Sara are in the same system, but on opposite sides of the sun (thus no one on Mar Sara saw the Protoss burn Chau Sara because the sun was blocking the fireworks).
The accuracy is the most important about it, so I guess the galaxy posted above is the most accurate one, good job adding all these planets but they seem to not represent the locations that accurately. I am not a lore maniac and I do not read much about the lore to know the exact locations but I do follow the campaign story and locations strictly.

I made this map of the galaxy a while ago based on lore: http://sclegacy.com/images/uploaded/wipandunreleased/starcraftgalaxy.jpg
Unfortunately, anything more would just be pure conjecture.

They used to go with a starmap in WOL. This is a video in Blizzcon 2007
Not sure it will be of any help since its quite blurry
You could find a better source, they showed some star system with planets on there too.

I remember having asked the same on the blizzard forums some time ago, to no avail. This si the closest I have seen, and its not very clear either

I was planning to map them and make them 2D as seen from above like in the original post, if there would be time for it.
