That is a huge thing to consider. I think I will wait a while before I add hots assets or wait for blizz dota assets as it should be usable by everyone.
never include multi dependencies unless you are making a pure melee map.
This is really the best advice. Multiplayer and Campaign mods were not built in a way that they are compatible with each-other and you will introduce some game data issues by depending on both. If you want to use HotS + WoL campaign data, just add HotS campaign as a dependency, since it will pull in the WoL campaign data automatically.
@maverck: Go It doesnt need to be a pure melee map. Melee mods often use the melee dependency. Yes its difficult to get through the issues, but its very possible to use them together as long as you know what you're doing.
I was just coming here to quote Tenarsis' battle.net post but he beat me here ^.^ I appreciate you clearing that up.
Once I get some free time I'll do a bit of testing myself and make an post about it somewhere.
edit- I posted here and linked it on the front page. It's pretty much restating what the blizzard developers have said, but hopefully this should help get the word out faster.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if this is going wrong in the editor/game, but when I try to add the Swarm Campaign dependency to a map and then attempt to use units from it in testing, they're broken. For instance, I placed the Hyperion unit from that one space mission on the map, but none of its voice files are working and the "Fighter Strike" ability is broken; it doesn't launch any fighters and just deducts 1 charge when I use it. The same thing happens if I place other campaign-specific units... but if I place regular units they seem to work just fine.

Maybe. I wanted just like in war3 - whenever some unit gets his stats changed for melee balance, this to be applied to custom maps as well. But I do not get the error message about merging data whenever I use:
Liberty Mod + Liberty Campaign + Liberty Storymode + Swarm Mod + Swarm Campaign + Swarm Storymode
it is indeed when you add some Multi mod that the issue occurs, and maybe your custom mod if the custom mod has Multi dependency
