Instead of the usual what do you listen to thread, I was wondering what do you guys listen to while you map edit. Is the music you listen to different then what you listen to when playing or doing other things?
For me I enjoy my playlist full of my inspirational singers like Susan Boyle, Regina Spektor, ingrid michaelson. When it comes to map editing, however, I can only listen to epic theatrical music otherwise I will get bored.
This is the playlist on youtube that I listen to when I map edit:
Music and programming share abstract calculating brain parts, so music may ruin concentration. Which is, though, only important when I do galaxy scripting. Other mapping parts aren't so exacting, so I listen to something complex like progrock. For the last days I opened The Beatles for myself, and it's the treasury.
As an example of a good mapping music I may link . It's a very beautiful techno opera.
Thrash/Death/Black Metal, Grindcore or Goregrind. I just make a powerful background while I'm editting to gain motivation but I really don't pay attention to the music and much less to the lyrics.
Eh, I suppose for me it's whatever I happen to like at that moment. When I was making a map about a bubblelisk I listened to whole GitS soundtrack. Was almost intoxicated by it (it's pretty varied with good amount of of both human voice and just music). Also GitS movies OST is just .
Usually Drum and Bass, Jungle, or Trance. I'm a big fan of anything off of labels in the style of Good Looking. Nice and atmospheric. If not that TGS Podcast, or some other podcast related thing...or a documentary.
I'm listening to music most of the time. Sometimes I've some sc2 stream running in the background and listen to its music.
The music is the normal music I listen to.
Coincidentally I usually have my night playlist on while mapping, DJ Krush, DJ Cam, DJ Shadow, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground and obviously Regina Spektor just to name a few. Terraining while listening to good music is pretty great. I like a lot of punk rock, but that doesn't always work as well with the galaxy editor.
I usually listen to Two Steps from Hell (symphonic music), but sometimes I enjoy OSTs from various games (from Monkey Island to Bastion, including console titles like Zelda and such)... Sometimes I also add random tracks from my usual daily playlists (Infected Mushroom, Iron Maiden, The Prodigy, Pendulum, Dragonforce,... depends on the mood, really!).
just tried to map surrounded by "scorpions - golden collection" and it felt like mapping inside an elven crystallic castle high in a mountains
scientists say that from biochemical point of view there is no difference between music and drugs (like marijuana or cocain), because when we listen to a music, we like, the same neurotransmitters get released in neurons like the ones which drugs release

The Going Quantum podcast
I like listening to relaxing music while I map.
OSTs, like Starcraft 1s or Heroes of Might and Magic 3 get me in the mapmaking mood from nostalgia.
Recently been listening to a lot of Bochum Welt too,
I always listen to DnB and I always go to this Youtube Chanel to get it...
