1) Best hero system that can be imported to any new map.
2) Best Custom Battle System/core game mechanic that can be imported to any new map. (Recently I've seen reaper arena, some FPS games, 2 Turn-based combat systems, Final Fantasy combat system, card games.)
3) Best custom building model
4) Best custom texture tileset
5) Best marine impersonation (voice acting with new marine one-liners - entries have to be serious one liners, not just a bunch of dirty jokes in a marine voice)
Category 2: Best "discovery".
1) Best method for making a dialog that builds buildings.
2) Best method for keeping high scores on Bnet.
3) Best method for fading from one area of the map to another without just zooming the camera.
Category 3: Best custom map....
1) in less than 10 minutes (open up those video recording programs)
2) with less than 20 triggers.
3) made by a team of 3 or more who shared the workload equally.
What about a terrain contest with a certain subject?
I really like some of Squarelys ideas because that would be useful for everyone.
I wanted to run a Terraining contest, the only problem is, how would we put it to the votes? We'd have to make a requirement/restriction, like one screenshot per map or something.
How about a model attachment contest ? Have to use all ingame model and actor in game data to attach into something cool. It can be either done with trigger or data editor. Custom attachment point is acceptable. Model scale (x,y,z) is acceptable. The good thing about this is no actual modeling skill is needed ( more people can compete) and easier to compare/vote by screenshot and awesomness
Edit: It can be something like the death baneling's use of model hidden partially underground
So it needs to be fun, it needs to be done quickly and people need to learn from it.. for me, theres one thing this works with, most ppl. would learn from it and its done really quickly:
Sound recreation
Easy as that. Galaxy edit comes with its own sound recreation tool, allowing pitching, fading, stereo resetting and all things needed to make great ingame sound remixes or funny quotes.. I did use the sound recreation tool in my reaperXzergling map and the result was pretty amazing.. its obviously not "video vegas 9" (or whatever the new tools are called) but it gets the job done, is fast and easy to use..
The contest could be about "funniest single remix of an ingame sound" or "best remixed soundset of a single unit"
Hello,
The last contest is over and we have to make a new one. I have few ideas in mind but I thought that it would be great this one was yours!
A good contest idea must have the following requirements:
Even if you don't meet all these requirement, shoot your ideas, it's possible to modify them!
Here are some ideas.
Category 1: Best importable map/mod/etc.

I could go on. What'dya think?
@vjeux:
Best use of units to make pictures / sequences
Example:
<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eH3GH7Pn_eA&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999&amp;hd=1&amp;border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eH3GH7Pn_eA&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999&amp;hd=1&amp;border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>
1. Best Technical Achievement
2. Best use of animations
3. Most creative multiple doodad, unit, or building use. (Stretching, attaching, colouring; making it artsy, functional, or realistic, etc.)

Comedy cinematic, or another short cinematic theme (I know there was a similar contest before, but I think those were more serious).
Best game imitation (the Dust and other recreation maps)
Best sound clip series (Conversation between two units using acknowledge and and "What" sounds)
Best mood / environment / weather use (Doodads and triggers)
In game tutorial on the game or galaxy editor, or even something more generic (Biology, physics, etc.)

Final edit: Yeah I forgot mentioning Terratron :P
A scripting competition. People create a system to solve a issue or problem. The voting would be hard though... (thats why I prefer judging)

@vjeux: Go
I'd love another Video/Cut-Scene contest, I couldn't compete in the first one due to some computer problems, and the entries were great.
