There's a shitload more to it than your elitist "that is what the plebs want so Blizzard is simply dumbing everything down for them". Judgement is easy.
yeah.. hots has pretty low popularity wich somehow conflict with a "game for plebs" definition. And for the game that relies on micro transactions having a huge player base is pretty much vital. The more newcomers the more skins getting sold.
I agree though that i'm very biased on this mostly because of my dota background and too high expectations from blizz moba. However i don't think i'm the only one who thinks that HotS needs some gameplay improvement, even if they don't want to "clone" dota. Maybe in different direction.

Stuff like this really isn't helping the 'elitist' point disappear. It just makes you sound more like you feel like you're above all HotS players because they don't know what 'real skill' is, or some other similar kind of argument.

This is a non-argument. I could say the exact same thing for literally any other game out there. Even Portal 2 could do with 'some gameplay improvement'. I'd say design-wise HotS gets more things right than it gets wrong, compared to games like League and DOTA2 - even if the game is in a slightly shittier spot at the moment due to the burst-heavy meta the last few patches have introduced.
so my personal view on heroes of the storm, it's an opinion, dont get mad at me:
first off, i had to force myself to play it again and again through the tutorial and then versus AI. after awhile it hooked me. basically the same happened with dota 1, ppl dragged me into it again and again until i got used to it and actually liked it.
i have played about 30 games now (about 20 quick matches vs humans)
in dota1 a bad game was about 30 minutes (noob team vs good team), average game (one feeder noob on one team) 60 minutes, and awesome games (2 equal teams) was 90 minutes. in heroes all games feel the same (there is a difference in duration but not much).
in dota 1 i had to think about when to use what skill and work with the limited enery available, in heroes i hardly have any problems with energy and all abilites feel like a spamfest, engage -> spam -> repeat, all games are the same no matter which map and objective.
also your hero feels week, it's all about ganging all the time, it's completely team centered, in the good and bad way. the only choice you can make are your abilities
heroes definitly has a lower frustration level than dota1 had, but it also feels like ganging and spamming is the only thing i need to know to play this game
The "spell-spam" stuff was done to speed up the gameplay, i never like to have to wait two thousand years for a spell to recharge... And again the goal of heroes was to be different in order to survive, is fun and ball tearing like dota imho, and there are way less retarded/tryhard/rager kids on heroes, but they still are present in some number

judging from this : https://www.google.com/trends/explore?hl=en-GB#q=%22starcraft%202%22%2C%20warcraft%203%2C%20league%20of%20legends%2C%20heroes%20of%20the%20storm%2C%20dota%202&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT-1
the peak of mobas is over.
how long do you think will they invest money into it? i really thought it would become more popular faster.
Wait, are you telling me that The lol/dota cancer is finally slowing down? As the five nights at freddy's cancer is finally replaced by Undertale?

lets start from the point where you put some sentence in quotes that doesn't belong to anyone's speech from this topic.
that was you reading my thoughts or what.
and the recent events basicaly only confirm strategy with handling HotS failure. https://heroesofthedorm.com/
Just inject the money motivation instead of trying to make game better. Just a nobrainer descision for days if you have shitton of money.
