A select few maps being mega famous has nothing to do with the inability to join a less popular map, which is the core problem. Even with Warcraft 3's system, there was a handful of popular maps that people bought Warcraft 3 to play, but it didn't inhibit others from creating and joining more niche custom games. You can't join a game you don't know exists, and that has nothing to do with the popularity of any map.
Wrong. If you can't play the map you want, you will play what's popular. And that makes the popular maps even more popular.
Yeah, like how WotLK had half of the content cut off, SC2 release was a beta and Cataclysm lacks a lot of stuff, too.
They're still good with some stuff, but releasing finished and polished games isn't one of them anymore.
You can't really use that case against them. Those were things that were planned, and they were basically telling the public the ideas they have. They aren't accountable for making every idea a reality if time doesn't allow it. There's so many factors to getting something working right and polished that sacrifices have to be made. In the case of Cataclysm, a big reason why there is a lack of *new* content is because they spent so much development time recreating Azeroth and making it workable for flight. Then there's the creation of new quests, zones and subzones etc. that the old world itself is pretty much new.
On top of that, we are learning more about their game development than ever before. The advent of the internet, Blizzcon, fansites forums and blogs, we hear a lot more about their plans for the future, and are easier to criticize when they fail to deliver on those ideas.
I mean, did you know that Starcraft 1, Blizzard had ideas to have Terrans be able to scavenge for extra minerals, Zerg would 'mature' and gain higher max-HP over time, and every unit would give off a certain amount of 'light' that makes them more visible (or stealthy) on the battlefield. Ideas like these never made it to the final product. Now who really looks back at SC1 and says "SC failed to deliver because it lacked X planned features"? Hopefully no one, because Starcraft is what it is, not what it could have been.

Source for the WoW stuff? What's the cut content for WotLK and Cata?
I remember an interview where they said that Cata was supposed to release in early 2010, but then they decided to completely remake the old world and it got pushed back to December.
I don't understand the complaints about the current popsys.
You have to check the actual results.
In WC3 I could play any map at any time, any of the tens of thousands of maps. Even completely unknown maps that I myself created and no one had ever played before would fill up within a minute or two.
In SC2 I can choose between 10 maps, that's it.
Myself, any everyone I know, has gotten bored of the SC2 custom maps already, while WC3 customs are still fun to play because there are simply so many maps to choose from and new ones pop-up each day.

This, and my thoughts are totally explained.

@Lonami: Go
Those claims are highly subjective. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

For WoW cut-stuff, just check WoWPedia.org's videogame articles and removed stuff categories.
It's all there, and no, it's not just ideas. Some of those were at the official pages, and didn't make it into the games.
