It can't even bear a 12 players footman frenzy, lol what a great modding tool for dota 2 Ahahaha XD
Dota 2 supports up to 20 players in multiplayer(may be even more, can't confirm). And people already created Footman frenzy with 12 players in Dota 2. "Hahahha"
It is more that DotA 2 simply can not support large number of units/entities on a map. Hardware/bandwidth requirements scale linearly, and pathfinding has to be resolved, transmitted, and receive inputs, all in the same window, which becomes increasingly difficult with more units, since the entire game state is sent to the players, not just inputs. In short, yes, DotA 2 can support a large number of players, but as far as I'm aware, making 500 units, and commanding them to amove, will cause issues, and get 2000 units on the map, and it crumbles.
Anytime i try to get some of my old buddies from war3 to play sc2 they always seem very uninterested in it. When they hear sc2, They dont think arcade scene. They think Ultra competitive 1v1 game that mostly asains play.
Agreed, i've convinced a dozen players that play different games to install SC2. We played a few maps but they still didn't seem too interested. They're just comfortable with the other games they play now. oh well, end of story.
This seems like a bad way to showcase about another game with its mod capabilities. If you posted in the off-topic section and remove the "vs SC2 editor" part, we wouldn't be getting all these "glory to the GALAXY EDITOR" responses from our sc2mapster veterans.

Reading those comments were just cringing...
I already rised this issue some time ago. Blizzard doing too much emphasis on cybersport. I don't know though if they making more money from cybersport events and marketing sponsors than they lose from sales drops due to sc2 being a game for asian "pro-24/7-players" , thus making a bad perception of a product. Despite the fact that sc2 has great high-budget singleplayer blockbuster which a lot of people could value more than silly APM competitions.
play it korvingump.. Its not 12 players. Its more like 12 players divided up into teams of 2 , because something about the engine wont allow 12 bases to spawn like a regular footmen frenzy , My guess is the engine is bad for mass units. Regardless, that footmen frenzy is terrible. You can see the guy that made it didnt actually do any work. He seems to have just imported war3 data and left as is . Example while footmen frenzy used the regular ladder heroes for the most part,The abilities were changed and had different values and went to level 6. All All the abilities go to level 4 and thats pretty much it. Then you have heroes like farseer who never had farsight in footmen frenzy because it was a useless ability replaced with silence. Yet in dota 2 footmen frenzy far sight is on the hero instead. Which leads me to 100% conclude the person imported war3 data and was done with it.
That shows to me the editor gotta be pretty damn hard to make abilities and level them up to 6 and have a mass unit map.
The Galaxy Editor is a much more powerful tool. So powerful, in fact, that it is insanely underutilized in most circumstances. Perhaps providing such a powerful tool is why more people don't actually use it, or perhaps use it to make things that stay private because of the time it takes to actually release a complete and polished map. Dota 2 is also free. I've played a lot lot lot of Dota 2 and I now cannot stand the toxicity there, which sadly also keeps me away from the custom stuff as well.
If anyone likes the custom content opportunities within that scene more then have at it... I'm not sure why exactly we need a pages long breakdown explaining that preference.
Visit my channel where I showcase custom content! Send me a PM or respond to my YouTube thread if you'd like to see your map/s on my channel (eventually!)
Hola, I have a year of time engaged to develop mods for dota 2 (if you interesting you can find my published mod on my page). Also i have little expirience in starcraft 2, and in warcraft 3 (here my warcraft 3 mod)
I know the author of this topic, all information from this topic isn't accurate.
So i can tell you all the trues
Maps can be self hosted(I think you can create server bots as in Warcraft 3) and have dedicated Valve servers(if community votes for it).
It not depends of community voting, your map must be few days in top 10 list of game (most popular), after that Valve can give you dedicated servers or maybe not. The main it's online, if you have big online and your map few days in top 10 list, probably Valve add d. servers.
Bad map protection. All maps can be easily stolen. All maps are saved on your disk Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\570, you can open map archive with GCFScape and extract all scripts/units. You can't open map with terrain, but some guys already written Source 2 Decompiler. Don't know how it works but in any case your map will be stolen on 100%. May be some devs invented scripts protection, but i have not found it.
It's can't be minus, btw panorama part (UI) protected. Don't know that someone stolen mods. You can see code from mods what you want it's very helpfull.
Very professional, topic isn't objective, it is seen as author agitating to creating mods for Dota 2.I just want to say that there are also many disadvantages which the author don't knows (in Dota 2), as didn't created mods for Dota 2.
Btw feel free to contact me in steam or here, if you need help or if you interesting in modmaking in Dota 2 or for others games.
So how does dota2 editor publish their maps?
Just like how sc2 does? Publish to the server?
Pretty much
Publishing
On another note, I'll post a decent compare contrast from what I've seen. TL;DR version, they both have their flaws (surprise surprise).

What a well organized post, thanks for giving us a headsup on Dota 2 mod community. I'm interested in checking it out.

Do you want to leave a professional editor for a tweaker built above a game ?

Dota 2 editor da best in de world ROFL
Hmmm, do they have any kind of uploading limits?
some maps on DOTA2 are using Blizzard Copyright and should be deleted.
It may make you feel sad in comparison, but the Marauder campaign has actually been scientifically and objectively proven to be a masterpiece.
Yeah, from NASA itself

It's true but, people who plays in dota 2 client can see only main developer (publisher).
Yes, 24

You need republishing map again, if your map was privated. Becouse noone will see your map in "new maps".
It's not so easy, better try it, you must know - css, xml, javascript to create good GUI.
