Yeah, did you cry at the end? As soon as I heard Raynor say "Hell, it's about time" I broke down. I was like "nooooo it's actually over what a bittersweet reference to WoL" And he was "never heard from again" apparently, but I think this is a direct hint for SC3 because the same thing was said in BW but Raynor appeared again.
After seeing my favorite characters from SC1 be mangled by crappy writing and not having a problem with a villain like Kerrigan ascending to godhood? Yes, I shed a manly tear of sadness and regret. ;(
I think as soon as the writers of WoL brought a prophecy thing to the scene it turned SC2 into the video-game interpretation of something you would find in an anime series. They wrote themselves into a corner with the prophecy thing so they had to follow through.
HotS was an emo story of mindless revenge. She was like "imma kill everyone cuz damn Mengsk kill jimmy" and then on the Moros it was like "lol whoops he's alive so I better go kill ever last ppl on the ship to rescue him"
LotV was Artanis going like "we gotta defeat deez mofos" or "hold ur ground ma boyz we Protoss so we live dat turtle life" and all the while they fell flat on their face quite a few times. In the Epilogue he was like "dem niggas need our help against chaos entities better send some zealots"
WOL was terrible partly because of the, "let's have all these side stories which don't matter in here, oh and you'll get each one piece meal and every mission in each arc will be exactly the same". All the colonists missions are rescue the colonists from the zerg. All the tosh missions with the exception of the last one are gather a bunch of shit for me without any reason given. Then most of the main missions are just collecting xelnaga artifacts. Wings of Liberty felt like a list of chores you had to do just so you could make it to the end of the game.
Both HOTS and WOL were bad because they ignored who the characters were in the previous games. WOL decided that jimmy still wanted to save kerrigan, but most of brood war was pretty much about how kerrigan was irredeemable and the true colors mission really drove it home for not only the player but also for jimmy as a character. Then SC2 just kind of forgets all of it and decides against everything, kerrigan needs to be redeemed anyway.
Then you have all enemies basically throwing the exact same lines out you and being indistinguishable. Mengsk, kerrigan, Amon, zagara, and the primal zerg sounded like basically the same character when they were your enemy. They just tell you about how you are gonna fail cause they are so awesome and you suck so much and how could you ever hope challenge their power.
Probably worst of all is the blatant disrespect for the player's intelligence. Not only do we have the game trying to hand hold you and baby you the whole way through, plus never using cloaked units because that would be "unfair" somehow, but the narrative must make it painfully clear all the time who the good guy and the bad guy are and is totally uncomfortable with making the player a bad guy at any moment in time. Kaldir was probably the worst offender for this because they were still trying to make kerrigan into a "good" character. We were mass murdering protoss for what amounts to no real reason at all and the writers try to justify it in the most odd and cringe inducing way possible.
All things considered, LOTV was probably the best it could have possibly been. The Taldarim were much better than I expected, sure they were the cliche red, evil, want to destroy everything guys, but they allied with good guys when necessary and didn't just sacrifice themselves because they were asked to and they actually force Artanis to deal with the fact that he is allied with people who will do whatever it takes to win. We at least had some sort of moral dilemma involved which wasn't obviously contrived.
LOTV didn't make me cry, which in my opinion was a good thing, cause HOTS and WOL sure did.
That being said, the epilogue was obnoxious, but they basically had no choice. In order for WOL and HOTS to make any sense, kerrigan had to be the "Savior". Sadly, it was mostly that single concept that ruined most of SC2. If kerrigan simply remained as a bad guy and jimmy sacrificed himself to kill her or something, the story would have probably been better. Plus it would have felt more continuous with the sc1 and brood war story lines.

actualy Kerrigan represents straight opposite to the "Savior" if you know what i mean.

Tbt I don't understand the reference with "ready to go cowbow?" - "Hell, it's about time".
I has something to do with WoL? Can you please explain them.
My understanding was during the final battle with Amon both their power cancel each other out, the blur figure in the mar sarra colony magistrate represent Raynor's longing to be with his lost love, Sarah before zerged.
All that drinking is killing him, destroying his health. And finally in his dying moment he sees her 1 last time.
Before venturing to the great beyond.

Kind of like what Hachiko experienced in the movie with the professor and the train.
Hell it's about time is the first thing Tychus says in the opening cineamtic of WoL. I like that they ended LotV in a circle like that. I didn't cry but it definitely left me with that empty feeling that good stories do at the end, like "oh this is over, now what am I going to do now?" Luckily we have the Nova missions, but hopefully Blizzard will start working on Warcraft 4 as soon as possible.
I might be the odd man out here but I actually loved the epilogue. They took the term "Deus Ex Machina" to its logical extreme and turned Kerrigan into a literal god - a giant burning angel of death with phenomenal cosmic power that can shape the very nature of the universe. It was so absurd and stupid and I loved it.
Was it good in the context of SC1 and the SC universe? Hell no. Was it good in the context of SC2? I guess? Was it good, period? It was to me.
I wish I could be so passionate (positively or negatively) about anything as people are over how much they hate or defend Starcraft 2.

I didn't cry becuz LOTV didnt touch me at all, damn WOL has sucha great story and HOTS was good too, well not that great as WOTL but i loved it and when i played LOTV i was like DAMN! Its not the ending i was w8ting for ;( Wheres tragedy, wheres pain? i need more tragedy and less childshit ;(
I did not like the story of the outro maps at all. Maybe that's why I like the fan-theory that Raynor was drunk in the bar and hallucinated potentially imagining everything.
The gameplay was good, but the story became quite ridiculous with Kerrigan becoming a Xel'Naga. I think, maybe I am just too old for happy endings or too corrupted by Game of Thrones. I imagine that it was the only ending that could tie up most loose ends in three maps and have a happy ending for James.
Now that you mention that, the whole thing being a dream makes a lot of sense.
Raynor pulling together with his tiny army overthrowing Mengsk and saving Kerrigan from the Zerg. Not only erasing her evil in Brood War but helping her become a Xel'Naga God who saves the universe. Then going on to live the rest of his days in a perfect world with the woman he loves while the universe enjoys peace.
If this is some Kojima shit on Metzen's part I'd applaud him. That's just my opinion.

I cry every time a unit dies. I'm a total mess when playing sc2 and sc1 maps.
Luckily you have SotX to play that is over 30% non-combat gameplay.
