Maybe go to the feedback forums and report that we want some kind of "scale" option on export to have there "1" by default, but to be able to put "100" there to export our old models with expected size.
the scale problem is pretty annoying =
\ not sure how to fix it, i can just scale all the units up, but then i end up with this
I have not read through all but does the documentation say anything about units set up?
Are we still just wild guessing if our models will turn out alright?
can't say i read all of it either but i dont recall seeing anything about it.
3dsmax does popup a window and ask about units sometimes, but i dont know what it means?
Nice! I don't have access, and even if I did, I couldn't really do anything with it, but its great to hear that the tools work out nicely. The live update thingy sounds incredibly useful to me, also from what I gathered the documentation and examples are superb, right?
Anyway, I hope there are still enough modelers left in the SC2 scene, or will be coming back for the art tools or HotS, so we get to see tons of new assets :)
This sounds amazing :) Good luck to you all with the tools!
I was wondering, seeing as you guys are already testing things, if you are capable of making some model assets that could be useful? For example, water or ice/frost particle effects are something sc2 doesn't have much of, so if you guys are gonna mess around with the particle stuff, you could use water/ice/frosty textures and post them on mapster?
In any case, I look forward to seeing what you guys do with these :)
Hehe yeah, I searched first in the wrong spot and was like "hey! Where are the ribb... oh here they are" ;)
And see? You can see the 2 ribbons: one is like the corruptor has and the other is the one that uses sRib structure (Void Ray's ray, Collosus's ray)
Great stuff :)
would be nice to use this in a better version of 3dsmax like 2012 or 2013
note: for anybody that doesnt have it are we allowed to post a link to download the startools or is this bad i dont see anywhere where it says we cannot
Yeah, I wouldn't do that either. If they want to publish it to the public they would do it themselves.
If someone really, really desperately wants to take part in the beta test and didn't get an email, I'm pretty sure there are ways to give the files to him while keeping it private at the same time ;)
They just want a precise, competent feedback, not just thousands of "wtf, how to select a mesh" or "why is all black, star tools suck". So yea, it's ok to share it with modellers.
I agree with Zolden. The reason it is a closed beta is most likely because they wanted selective feedback from people who knew on the subject. I see no evidence that supports that the actual startools are account dependant or otherwise get you in trouble if you share the link. That said, I only skimmed through the EULA so I do not know if there is any clause against one sharing the startools with other knowledgeables, though, to be fair, I would NOT advise you to publicly post ot on sc2mapster. Publicly anyway ;p.
The documentation is alright. I have read it all in my lunch hour at work. That also means it is incredibly short for now as it is incomplete. I am eagerly awaiting the cliffs section chapter and by reading the physics part of the tutorial I probably confirmed an idea I had a while ago is possible. But I would like to get home and test it out before I say anything.
scaling will continue to be a problem I guess until we figure out which system is blizzard working with. still not a major issue anyway.
If I understand the art tools license correctly, then:
Users are not allowed to upload their models to sc2mapster!
Users are not allowed to make models for other people!
Users are not allowed to show their models!
Users are not allowed to upload maps with their selfmade models to SC2mapster!
The only thing you seem to be allowed to do with your work is to give it to Blizzard... I seriously hope that they release the final art tools under a less restrictive license...

Sigh, I forgot to sign up... Seems like it's too late now.

I wouldn't. It's a closed beta with very few participating it might piss them off.

Guys, did you try that environment map from the tutorial? Looks so badass!
