Prety sure LotV is going to be SC2 3.0 and so already share the same arcade as WoL and HotS. The only difference is that LotV will be stand alone so not require you to purchase WoL and HotS to play the campaign and melee (unlike HotS which did require WoL).
When we publish a map, we will have to ultimately decide how it will be published - as a WoL map, HotS map or a LotV map. How players are affected:
- If you have HotS, you can play WoL/Hots maps
- If you have LotV, you can play WoL/LotV maps
- If you have both HotS and LotV, you can play all maps
Is that how it works?
I guess what is throwing me off is the idea that LotV is a standalone.
It seemed like everyone who had roc also had tft, but doesn't it feel like there are lots of arcade players who have WoL but not HotS. I hope that any future Galaxy editor changes will benefit mappers who will only have WoL and/or HotS map.
My question was is how will LotV affect mappers and arcade players?
- Obviously LotV will have its own dependencies (LotV melee and LotV campaign) to use?
- Arcade display only maps associated to the game you have? If you're doing f2p Arcade, it only displays WoL, if you have just WoL it will only display WoL, if you have HotS, it will display WoL and HotS maps?
- Zer0killer ask isn't LotV arcade maps going to be f2p? does that mean ultimately WoL and LotV maps will be f2p but not HotS?
wol and hots arcade are free to play already. any map using hots , wol or wc3 assets is playable with starter edition or any sc2 version. i strongly assume the same will be the case for lotv (at least the arcade will be free to play with lotv starter edition)
lotv will have melee and campaign dependencies.
Well, but sc2's architecture is different than war3's on that.
We don't even use two exe to start wol and hots.
that's exactly my point, we will have to different exe for wol and lotv since lotv is standalone. there is a chance wol + hots stay sc2 2.0, and lotv become sc2 3.0

Are you guys serious? ALL maps on the Arcade, regardless of which addon they were created on, are F2P. They have been for a quite a while now. Meaning you can just download a starter edition of Starcraft, without ANY money spend, and play ALL of the maps on the Arcade, right now. This will be no different for LOTV.
I don't see this being a thing, I think it'll all be grouped together for those that already own the game. I think the game will be standalone in the fact that you won't have to have either the base game (WoL) or the expansion (HoTs) to play it. Otherwise if you own WoL and HoTs I think it'll be added in the same way HoTs was added on top of WoL. I hope that wasn't to confusing to read.
Named Lobbies is already back in a fairly improved form, via the Lobby Linking (which allows a custom message afterwards, you see some VERY creative stuff in the Arcade chat nowadays). Lobby linking basically took the named lobby concept and diffused it through chat, which is fundamentally better, since you can tailor the lobby advertising to the crowd if you wish, while still retaining the map name. Furthermore, lobby links makes advertising more effective since it is one click to join, as effortless as it is going to get.

in wc3 the tft editor had access to all RoC assets too but could do things that couldn't be done in roc-editor

Will that also mean different editors? As otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

bumb. most questions are still recent after lotv!
For that case, I never join a game which is named 'No Noobs'.
