to any moderator,
since bots mostly spam in the general chat, would it be possible to create a subforum infront of the general chat that is just visible to the bots but not a normal user? basically catch all the bots posts. also disabling it to be seen on newest post section?
Nice idea. It would not only save the main forum, but would be a trap, because anyone posted there would authomatically be banned. But I'm afraid forum neither can distimguish between bots and users nor has tools for such trickery. Though, if there were possibilities to smartly check the user, I'd consider anyone who just registered, and posted in less than a few minutes - a bot. And new subforum's name should let the real users know, that it's a trap, but not for them.
Normally Web sites have a special secret caracters that bots cannot see in the script. They just have to put this kind of protection and it will be alright. If I remember well, we talked about that already 4 years ago, so I dont think it will change soon...
90% of all bots post here, because it's the first one (at least i assume that).
as far as i know our admins are able to create a new forum (wc3 modding i.e.). also project forums are not shown on front page latest posts, so there must be a flag for that too. this solution would be super fast, doable and cause no trouble. even if it could not be possible to hide it from the user just call it the Bot Forum.
The general chat is the forum which gets the vast majority of spam. but I figured the bots just look at which forum is the most active and post there. In which case putting another sub forum first would not do anything.
However SC2mapster gets far more spam than legitimate posts. So maybe if you renamed the "general chat" to "spam trap" and then created a new forum for general discussion the renamed "spam trap" forum would still be the most active and so would draw all the spam posts.
... unless they go off the number of views... in which case you would need to either fake the view count or create a view bot of our own...
but these methods are just bandaids on bullet holes. it's not going to fix the core problem of requiring some form of verification.
No offense, but you guys haven't thought this through. How would the forum differentiate between bots and users so it could hide a specific board for non-bots? If it could do that, it may as well just straight up ban the bots. In which case we've gone full circle and we're back at bot prevention.
We could put a board above general, but there's no telling if that would be effective at all. And either way, mods can't add boards, it'd be an admin job.
Personally I feel having it based on any account that posts a few moments after being created is a bad idea. It's entirely plausible someone might lerk for a while before making an account, then see something that particularly interests them and wants to comment, registers, goes to post and... gets instantly blocked or whatever?

how about we just try it? what do we have to loose? is it that much work? call it the "bot spam forum", fake many views and let's see if bots will post there.
ofc it's not a 100% perfect solution, i never said that but i am also sick of waiting for the new page which will come maybe next year.
Hey guys, just wanted to add to a post I wrote few days ago. I ask Curse to help with the spam, this was their response:
<<quote Curse>>The code base on Legacy sites is currently frozen as we are trying to get everything prepared to move them to the new Curseforge platform. As such, team members of Curseforge are supposed to be going through the SC2Mapster forums for spam bots any time one is reported. You should only need to report one for us to go through and get rid of all the spam posts currently provided. Please be sure to report any spam posts you see so that we can take care of them until the move.
Enjoy the Game!<</quote>>
So I guess the website will be moved to different server soon where the control panel and security will be updated. The website name and domain will be the same. The question is when? like starcraft 2 expansion pack release? ™

@Mozared: Go
what about this: http://www.sc2mapster.com/announcements/main-page-additions/
It's not visible for users normally, thanks to my slow internet i see it before the css is loaded. and even bots posted there already.
