OK I'm really into the lore of Starcraft and today I came across the wiki for Adun. I've never really heard of why Adun was so great except what the Protoss would say about him in game how he was legendary and their race probably wouldn't exist without him. I was very curious because from what you get about him in the games his story would be pretty epic. Well, not so :(
I hope I'm wrong but basically it said that he pretended to execute DTs instead of actually doing it and tried to hide them. When they were found out he used both dark and khala energies to create a cloud so the DTs could escape. The Judicators made a story that Adun did his thing to fend off the DT and all......
Somebody please tell me what book has his story in it because what I've read must be a mistake. I thought he was the guy who ended the Aeon of Strife, or maybe some massive restart of the Aeon of Strife happened and by using Khala and Dark energies in some huge Tassadar explosion the DTs decided to leave. Something epic not an energy cloud so the rogues who were unwilling to fight could sneak off.
Aaaaaaaaaaaand since the Dark Templar are back wouldn't the Aiur Protoss be pissed they were lied to? It really bugs me what do you guys think?
Blizzard has shot the lore all to hell, it's full of contradictions and things that don't really make sense. Don't expect to research it and come up with something that is really immersive or even logical. For example: sometimes Protoss refer to the Aeon of Strife as being thousands before Terrans came to the Koprulu, sometimes it's hundreds.
It was the 2nd book in the Dark Templar trilogy, Shadow Hunters I believe. That one is about Adun and Razsagal.
Essentially yes, he fooled the Aiur Protoss into believing he vanquished the Dark Templar. In reality he was hiding them away and I think teaching them a different way of controlling their powers. When the refugees were found out, he tried to prevent an all out war but the energies he tried to control tore his body apart and created a fantastic storm that allowed the DT's to escape. His sacrifice lead to a sort of martyrdom, which the Aiur Protoss revere him for. They believe that Adun ascended into a higher form and that he protects them from the Dark Templar from ever returning.
To be honest though, this is all 'retcon' lore that Blizzard likes to do to explain backstory that was never there before. In SC1 Adun was never explained, but it gave the Protoss some depth when you hear them revere a named character. You never really knew if Adun was a god or a mortal or what, you just knew that the Protoss held certain values, essentially a sense of honour.
SC1's manual explains Adun's basic backstory. Also, Zeratul thinks that Tassadar was actually a reincarnation of Adun. The developers keep "hinting" at this, as if we didn't read the 3rd DT saga book.
The Citadel of Adun lore states that it was built for "one of the greatest masters of the Khala". So, Adun is probably a true psychic badass.
Damn I guess I gotta get the Dark Templar Trilogy then. I don't know I just imagined he had this epic death like Tassadar but it turns out it's just a Conclave lie. I mean he obviously had a meaningful death so the Dark Templar could live and Aiur Protoss could feel safe and all but damn. Plus all the damn retconning they do really makes it hard to figure anything out.
Actually, Adun's contribution was really important, principally for the meaning of his sacrifice. Not killing other protosses is a fundamental principle in their philosophy since the end of the Aeon of Strife.
As you must know, the dark templar destroyed their link with the Khala. The Conclave saw that behaviour as a herecy, and ordered the executor Adun to kill them all secretly in order to avoid other protosses disconecting themselves too.
Adun believed that killing their own race would mean an involution, that's why he hided, protected and trained the dark templars; being the first Protoss who disobeyed the Conclave. When the cover was blown, he had no alternative but give them a vessel to get out of Aiur.
Then, in the day where the dark templars where going into the ship, The judicators apeared and a confrontation started between both factions. That would surely fall into a new Protoss Civil War capable of destroying all the growth of the race since the Aeon of Strife. Adun stood in the middle, and with a enormus psionic blast (like Triceron describes) gave time to the Nerazim to depart vanishing in the air.
About the last question, the Aiur Protoss knew that the Dark Templar had survived, that's why they praise him.
EDIT: Freudian slip. I meant Adun istead of Aiur xD
