RailTracer, I'm gonna be polite and go with a simple "STFU". Discussion's all good but ad hominems aren't valid arguments and they don't really improve the mood either. You've got beef with Soul, go fight it out somewhere else, not here.
SouL, you're hardly inappropriate in your responses but please; just ignore him.
I think you meant appropriate, not inappropriate. Also, perhaps you should read more carefully. It seems to me that Soul responded to a very minor insult from Trace with an over the top post. Biased much?
Wow....so much fire in this thread...nearly every second post is a flame.
Well, to be honest I don't think, that more than 10% of the custom games player really like the popularity system.
Its clearly that the list is not really there, since you can play only 20 maps and "map #21" has no players in it so why should I join?
If this system does not change drastically (and as far as I know Blizzard it won't change) then I guarantee, that in the year 2016, Nexus wars will be still at the top 5! (even if the same version as now)
Nexus wars is fun to play for me too, since I really liked Castle Fight in Warcraft3 (even if that was 10²³ times better) but I don't join since I just hate the fact that other maps doesn't have a chance in that list.
I'm going to release my first custom map in Starcraft2 and I know that it doesn't have a chance to reach the top with this system, but like Eric Cartman says: "What should I do?"
Says the one who started a sh*tstorm over in Aegis' thread about his inactivity ;)
@Topic:
Stupid idea, as it spoils the fun for the people who don't want idlers or leavers in their game.
Blizzard needs like 3 months to integrate Chat Channels into Sc2, do you think they'll shake a new custom game system out of their sleeve just like that?
Continue complaining (but over at us.battle.net it's much more efficient) so they remember that it's a problem, but don't start any needless actions to further "proof" the point.
i guess i like that idea, it would be better if we could get the whole front page filled with maps named that lol
That idea I could stand, but your original idea was a bit too immature, no offense.
The very way you phrase it turns me off. "We have given Blizzard more than enough time and feedback to end the worst custom hosting system ever." You don't get the way Blizzard works I guess. They very well have listened, but its been proven that Blizzard is a very slow moving company. I wouldn't be surprised if there were fixes already in the works, considering they said they were going to improve it. Plenty of time? Not really, considering blizzard.
The "Worst Ever" part is arguable too, but I'll let that point rest.
Nevertheless, the part I disliked about your idea was the fact that your "riot" was targeting the players not blizzard. Just because you don't like tug maps (neither do I) doesn't mean the people playing them deserve to have you joining, causing a ruckus, and then leaving. After all, seeing as how the popularity system works, its the only maps they really can play, right? Is it their fault if they enjoy those maps?
Everybody already knows it sucks (even blizzard, to an extent) and the additional complaint of "Fix the system so people stop harassing us" would just get the people ruining the game banned, not the popularity system fixed. (Hypothetically, maybe nothing would happen.) They can't speed up the development system. They have to be working on HotS and other things that need to be fixed as well. You may say "give it higher priority" but honestly, 5 years later you will wish HotS would be at least in internal beta stages.
I for one don't really care that much yet, because I haven't really seen ANY games that are that good (if not because of the lag, than because they are under-developed or imbalanced even if they are "Better" then tug maps.) and I haven't gotten bored of ladder yet. Do what you like, I guess I'm just not really a Rioter or a Petitioner. But Blizzard has stated before they prefer constructive criticism and will get rid of petitions and other such stuff. I don't really think, even if it worked, that this would help at all. And it has been proven they read their own threads, especially if they get to the "Most popular threads" list.
Sorry if the tone comes off offensive or theres any writing flaws, I wrote this pretty quick.
I've read the thread a little and got an idea. What if we start making threads on blizzard forums about looking for people to play a so or so game.
For example
Hello,
I want to play this custom map and I'm looking for people to play who want to join me. PM me on bnet.
Or something like that. Pick a good map that has almost zero popularity and try opening a thread for it. Where people could gather and make up matches xD
Do not mention anything about the crappiness of the popularity system. This kind of ironic trolling would get blizz's attention if done appropriately and on a good enough scale.

Huh? Not a native speaker I take it? That expression (says the one who...) is used to point out hypocrisy. Now go read my post again, and then tell me how that conflicts with what I did in the other thread.

No, I meant inappropriate. As in "Soul, you're hardly in the wrong, but I'm advising you to just ignore RailTracer anyway". Also, perhaps you should read more carefully. It seems to me that while SoulCarveRR's post was rough, it didn't contain an ad hominem - he just called Rail out on his opinion. It's not the discussion that worries me, it's the need for personal insults that have no place here.
Now I will drop the topic, as this is not what the thread is about. I wouldn't mind having an excuse to lock another thread full of whining though, so note that that's what I'll do if it's needed.

I would go ahead and Lock it, i'm obviously not going to get the support that I want, and people are just going to turn this into a flame.
Have fun with the popularity system. I rest my case.
