We have given Blizzard more than enough time and feedback to end the worst custom hosting system ever.
Since Blizzard has decided what maps will be popular, instead of the players, and have also made it impossible for new maps to rise or even
have a slight chance of getting 1 player to join your game during development Phase,
I am starting a 1 man troll crusade (hoping for more people to join) to send a clear message to Blizzard that this custom game system has to end.
Welcome to Nexus Trolls.
I am looking for a broad base of support from people who will take time out of thier day to Troll at a minimum of 7 Nexus Wars, or any FRONT page Tug game.
We will not use bad language or attack other players. yet simply argue that the popularity system must be changed, press your case then leave the game or sit idle.
If enough people get involved and stay focused on the mission at hand, spreading our message, we will have a resonable boycott that can finally send a clear message that the custom map community has had enough.
No, because A) I'd be screwing over people who can't in any way help or influence Blizzard's decisions and B) I'm getting tired of the constant whines about the popularity system. It isn't optimal and there's a lot of stuff regarding Bnet that can be improved, but by now this horse has pretty much decomposed and people are beating the ground it used to lie on.
You're naive if you think the idea will spur more than a handful of people to co-operate, if that. And even if they keep it up, what d'you think Blizzard will do? Apologize that they're not changing it sooner (as they have mentioned countless of times that they do intend to change stuff - link) or just ban the five people doing it?
Either accept that the system currently is as it is and that Blizz does intend to change it but that it's not a priority right now or quit the game. Unless a huge spur of people is involved similar to the one that occured when Blizz introduced real names to their forums, nothing is going to change. And note that this spur isn't something a couple of people can create - it either happens because there actually are a lot of people who have beef with an idea, or not at all.
i believe the support is there.
Like Real ID, I believe there is enough angry people to send a message to hasten its demise.
Together enough people can make it a Priority.
Banned for 'playing poorly' in a custom game?. lol uh no. Been doin it for several months now.
We are free to play how we want in any game.
And like Real ID there are always people like you who argue otherwise. Nothing new.
@BudSMoken:
lol i have ever played nexus wars and ever will lol there are other maps at the top of the bloody lists, its not like WC3 and full of dota, the top of the list has other game maps like RISK and Footies, and if you stop being lazy you can get a group of mates together and click show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more........................................................
show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more show more.........................................................................................
i think thats all the show mores =P
and play a map at the button with a group of mates see not that hard =P
Seriously get some reasoning. You guys whine about the realID, they decided not to implement it. Now they ALREADY have plans to change it, at least wait until the update rolls out until you start to whine again
First, isn't it somewhat paradoxical to join a game - thereby bumping it's popularity up a notch - in order to troll it?
Second, this is for you, and everyone else who has visions of starting some sort of battle.net revolution: wouldn't your time be better spent trying to develop a broad-base of support for your next map in order to exploit the popularity system in the same manner that other people do? I mean, instead of wasting your time trolling other people's games, get this support base to bump your map. You could simultaneously be sending Blizzard a user-driven compendium of improvement ideas for future updates.
I'm sorry, but you're not exactly operating inside real life here... this is video game land. Blizzard is not a government, they're a corporation. They have no obligation to bend to the will of their fan base, unless they start to see a difference in their bottom line. Frankly, you're lucky they're listening at all.
My suggestion: stop making map at the moment and wait till Blizz does some changes, hopefully in the next major patch.
Really. I started my dota map (Aeon of Chaos) nearly two months ago and released it recently. It is highly polished and most people who played it said it is very good. I dare say it is at least better than half of the maps on the first four pages. I spent a lot of time to advertise it on different sites but it seems the path to make it appears on the first few pages of US server is still very long.....
So my current plan is to finish one more update that I'm working on for my dota map, as well as finish some final polishing for my ARPG map I started long time ago, then I'm going to stop touching Starcraft 2 altogether and continue my other computer / Wii games, until Blizz does some real changes.
How about this: Use StarMovie, make rickroll, get it to front page. Better and funnier troll. And at the end of video put "SC2 POPULARITY SYSTEM SUX [UR MSG]"
Your intentions are noble but as mentioned previously, this is a waste of your time. The real name thing impacted all players and was a really dumbass idea, thus you had a lot of outrage. Popularity system only impacts custom game players and is one level below real names (idiot instead of dumbass), so there will not be much outrage. I hope none of you are crossing your fingers regarding a fix to the popularity system...you might get gangrene.

I like it, make a 5 minute long game and after 5 minute you get rickroll with the message that sc2 popularity sux!
Also its better to spam bnet forums with threads why popularity system sucks, than joining games...
I weekly do 1-2 thread trolling the popularity system on the EU forum.
I actually don't mind people's constant complaining about the popularity system. I'd rather constant complaining than complacency. Most people assume that since so many people have complained, a solution is in the fix. These people must be new to Blizzard, because this is not the case. Only through continual complaints do they do anything. I don't really support this idea though, because the likelihood of blizzard noticing is 0%.

Well gentlemen,

Will you support Nexus Trolls?
Hmm, good idea, should i also open a new sub forum for popularity discussion as well ?
No, because A) I'd be screwing over people who can't in any way help or influence Blizzard's decisions and B) I'm getting tired of the constant whines about the popularity system. It isn't optimal and there's a lot of stuff regarding Bnet that can be improved, but by now this horse has pretty much decomposed and people are beating the ground it used to lie on.
I am finally putting together a fight for all the great programmers and mapmakers that make custom gaming possible. this shit has to end.
you wont be screwing over anyone. trust me, they have tons of Nexus games they can get into without trolls
secondly, there is a big difference between beating a horse and riding it into battle.

I am moving forward.
lets do nothing then.
lets just play Nexus Wars for the next year or 2 because there isnt enough people to test any other maps or even know they exist

Two things:

Apparently its the only thing I learned in college.

Priceless. I hope to use that line someday.

A party about popularity system and no one called me!? I am disappointed.
Anyway, your intentions are good, but this will only get yourself banned, and after 3 weeks no one would remeber what u have done to help blizzard.
