Hey everybody, remember when they revealed that a lot of the units in the Protoss arsenal will have different variants to them in the Legacy of the Void campaign? Those will be divided through 4 different Protoss factions, and you'll be able to pick your load-out in between missions. Each unit has 3 variations, which means not every unit has a variation from each faction. Each variation alters a unit with a specific role, changing its function, which allows you to adapt the unit to your play style.
The 4 factions are:
1. Khalai/Aiur (The original golden Protoss we all know and love)
2. Nerazim (Dark Templar, basically. They use a Blue-ish silver scheme, sometimes with blue, sometimes with green highlights)
3. Tal'darim (Xel'Naga and Amon worshippers (They used to work with Ulrezaj and Duran/Narud, as well), they join you later on in the campaign, after you kill their leader. The color scheme for Tal'darim units is dark grey/black, with red and green highlights)
4. Purifiers (Sentient robots created and abandoned by the Protoss aboard a space station. They are found and reactivated during the campaign, joining you in the fight against Amon. The Disruptor and Mothership Core are actually Purifier AIs acting as an individual military unit. Their units' color scheme is white, with orange highlights.)
That being said, each base unit has different variants. Sometimes they vary more, sometimes less, than the base unit. There are 10 confirmed units with alternate variations. Zealot and Stalker are 100% confirmed. The rest is all speculation.
ZEALOT:
Khalai - Zealot (Has ability that can cause it to rotate and damage all units around it)
Nerazim - Centurion (Phase Charge - Can charge through units to get to its target)
Tal'darim - Legionnaire (Rage - activated ability, Legionnaire does more damage)
STALKER:
Khalai - Dragoon (More Armor/Health, More Range)
Nerazim - Stalker (Blink)
Tal'darim - Hoplite (Slows down enemy units)
SENTRY:
Khalai - Sentry (Force Field, Guardian Shield, Hallucination)
Nerazim - Nullifier (Phase Shield (HotS beta), Phase Shift (Shifts unit out of existence temporarily, rendering it invincible), Hallucination)
Purifiers - Adjunct/Monitor (Energize, Shield Regeneration, Heal + Nano-Repair)
IMMORTAL:
Khalai - Immortal (WoL/HotS Hardened Shield)
Nerazim - Valiant (LotV activated Shield ability, better against light units, weaker against armored)
Purifiers - Phalanx (Has jump ability, AND can jump up/down cliffs. Using either ability resets cooldown on both. Jump ability causes it to land and deal damage.)
COLOSSUS:
Khalai - Colossus (Artillery unit, can climb up and down cliffs)
Tal'darim - Reaver (Artillery unit, can build scarabs)
Purifiers - Disruptor (Just like in LotV MP)
ARCHON:
Khalai - Archon (AoE damage)
Nerazim - Dark Archon (Push (Pushes enemy units in target direction away from unit), Maelstrom, Mind Control)
Tal'darim - Twilight/Void Archon (has Chain-link attack) (Shockwave (uncloaks all ground units, unburrows all units), Vampiric Aura (activated ability, absorbs health of nearby units to boost its shields), Teleport (Teleports units in target area to other target area))
VOID RAY:
Khalai - Tempest (Disintegration (LotV Pre-Alpha ability))
Nerazim - Void Ray (WoL Prismatic Beam, HotS Prismatic Alignement (disables Prismatic Beam while Prismatic Alignement cooldown is still active)
Tal'darim - Scout (Phase Prison - Phases building out, rendering it incapable of producing, researching, upgrading or doing anything else)
ORACLE:
Purifiers - Defender (Mothership Core art) (Time Warp, Mass Recall, Photon Overcharge (Can now be used on any production/research/upgrade/tech structure, not just Nexus))
Nerazim - Oracle (Stasis Ward, LotV Revelation/Envision, Pulsar Beam)
Tal'darim - Arbiter (Stasis Field, Cloaking Field (Passive), SCBW Recall)
CARRIER:
Khalai - Carrier (Classic LotV Carrier, can release interceptors to attack target)
Nerazim - Harbinger (Can deploy melee Shuriken interceptors, which can only attack ground units, and has underside shield that heavily reduces GtA damage)
Tal'darim - Super-Carrier (Has more health, shields, and can deploy more interceptors, along with escorts)
Other Protoss Unit suggestions, without variants:
- High Templar (Khalai)
- Dark Templar (Nerazim)
- Probe (Khalai)
- New LotV Gateway unit ("Shade") (Nerazim)
- Replicant (Purifiers)
- Vindicator ("Soul Hunter" - the more bio units it kills, the more its DPS goes up, stacks up to 3, but only temporary) (Nerazim/Tal'darim)
- Observer (Khalai)
- Warp Prism (Khalai)

So, what do you guys think? What kind of unit variations should we have? What should they look and play like? Which faction do they belong to?
Oh, and someone please make that awesome Harbinger model I posted. It's a photoshop/photo manipulation made by a fan. :D
