I downloaded some custom campaigns, and I was wondering why they opened as green empty maps and I had to open them again from inside the editor. This never happened with my maps... I did some testing and came up with the following conclusion:
2 whitespaces together->dependency data could not be loaded
1 whitepace and a hyphen together->empty green map
1 underscore and 1 whitespace together->OK
1 underscore and 1 hyphen together->OK
I haven't tested any other special characters.
If someone could test this and confirm/deny. If this turns out to be true that I would like to encourage all campaign makers to rename their maps, as there are many players who might not know of any work-around. Remember: Fun is in the details!
This is wrong: Annihilation 14 - The First Step.sc2map
This is good: Annihilation 14_-_The First Step.sc2map
This looks better: Annihilation_14_-_The_First_Step.sc2map
My idea: Fuck the subtitle and be on the safe side: Annihilation14.sc2map
Even better if you make it short as a very long file path+filename might also cause problems: Anni14.sc2map
In all seriousness, it's very nice to know there is a possible solution for this, as I know my maps in particular all have this problem. I can't personally confirm if this solution works or not as I never have had any problems opening any maps, but it's still a nice change to consider implementing to any future stuff I make.
StarCraft II: Annihilation Campaign - A 24 mission single-player campaign featuring unique heroes, custom tracks, boss battles, a varied set of mission scenarios and three intersecting storylines.
I thought it was better to have a real world example :D
At first I thought it was the imports. Then I thought it was the length of the mapname. Removing/replacing the whitespaces was the only working solution I could reproduce on different maps.
Hmm strange that you don't have a problem opening them. What operating system do you work with? Could still be that this isn't the solution after all.
I use Mac OS X. It is possible that it may be a PC-only use, or perhaps I've just been lucky :P

I am trying to play several maps on a mac book but cannot get them to load with dependencies intact, I keep getting dependency errors I have loaded files in my maps files and my cache file as well thanks for your help. 5Toedwillie
Sorry to say but on mac, dependencies seem to cause trouble (no publishing available last i tried) and while mac fix / specific dev or updates is rather confidential i'm afraid this one is still pending.
Also file names are not as open on mac than on pc (underscores is a no no). Maybe renaming it is all it would take, however it might be quite complex to change the name EVERYWHERE it needs to be changed ..

I'm using Windows 10 and I just downloaded and play.
Hmm I have windows 10 as well. I did my tests on the desktop. Might have something to do with the overall filepath+filename.
