You are by no means late, and thank you for your advice. Also, there is going to be a "healer" hero. I am going to avoid giving most of the other heroes abilities that can heal. However, I am going to be using one defensive ability on at least 4 of the heroes. Most are going to have an ability that makes the target friendly unit take 25% less damage from the type that is weak against the hero. (For example, Flarik can cast an ability on a unit that makes the unit take 25% less damage from nature units. Well, I think. I'm still deciding)
As for the passives and auras, I agree. 2 at most, unless of course the unit specializes in it, like the healer unit.
Also, thanks to everyone else too. I read all of your responses and very much took them into account.
