Hi there. I'm having a problem with game speed. I'm old, well 74 years young, and don't have the reflexes of you youngsters.
Which is why I don't ladder. I don't play well at the faster speed setting of the ladder. So I play custom games against the AI and redo the Campaigns a lot.
That way I can reduce the speed setting to dead slow (slower).
Now in LotV the speed settings have changed again. Before when playing at the normal difficulty I could reduce the speed to slow.
Now normal locked in to normal speed for the lowest setting.
So how do I get the game speed down to slower or slow In the campaigns.
I'm not a programmer so I don't know code, but I can follow instructions very well.
Nice to see that it's not only us younger ones that play, it's not possible for us to create a mod that can influence the game speed of campaigns selected from Starcrafts campaign menu. However it is possible for us to create a mod that you can apply to custom games, and use as a dependency for campaigns downloaded from here if that's what you'd want.
if you are talking about playing campaigns then you mean you launch them from the editor
mods are notoriously overwritten/disqualified by dependencies and not sure if it would work
if the map(s) you want to play is "unlocked" then you could just go open it into the editor and add a trigger at the end of the melee initialization
in the trigger module select the melee initialization and type speed in the search window, add the trigger that says "set speed to slow" or something close
if you want to play a melee map, then i see the point to a mod.. but i still don't get it? if you are playing with Ais you should be able to select the speed in the lobby or drop the speed by typing on the minus button !? of your keyboard while ingame...
busy today, but if no one else answers i'll try to do your "cut the speed to slowest at the start" (on a simple LotV canvas) mod
Just want to make sure: Can you press F10 and set game speed from there? Or is it restricted in some maps?
Mapmakers can set default speed for specific maps. For example I set it automatically to "Faster" because default multiplayer is plaeyed with "Faster" speed.
A glimmer of hope. I see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Terhonator, In the Campaigns the speed setting is restricted to slow and above. As you change the difficulty of the campaign from casual to normal, hard and brutal, the speed setting is further restricted as you go up in difficulty.
So if you press F10 on brutal the speed is restricted to faster only, on hard it’s fast and above, and on normal it’s normal and above.
And there is the root of my problem. I don’t want to play namby-pamby casual. I want to play on brutal so there is more and harder stuff the deal with, and more achievements. However, I can’t seem to get the things I need to do, done at the faster speed setting.
In multiplayer, under the custom or Vs AI tab it is not the same. I can beat any Elite AI with any Race because when you go F10 there is no speed restriction. You make the game at the faster speed but once it starts there is no speed restriction. That is why I don’t ladder. With the speed restriction I can’t get the things done that I need to do.
Now is it possible to unpack the StarCraft II.exe and change the speed setting so it defaults to slower or slow. Or would I have to change each specific campaign map.
I did something similar to take away the insane difficulty’s cheats.
But Blizzard has changed its packing system so I now need the proper tool to work with.
With the right tool I would only have to change one line of code.
This is in no way related, sir, but if you would like to add me on battle.net, I would love being able to play with someone that's good on a slower speed setting. I have never been a fan of speed setting the difficulty, and LotV simply destroyed my love for online play because it cut out the only part of the game I could get a decided advantage, which is the opening build order. Yes, anyone in Dia+ league could still stomp me with superior micro skills, But I reached the top tier in the Gold League with an average APM of 19. LotV is ALL APM, ALL the time. I would probably be in the bronze league my entire career.
My Battle.net account name is BigDonRob, if you want to add me.
Hi Big Don. If you want the slower speed setting I'm your man.
I live in Pensacola Florida. Most of Florida is eastern time zone, but the panhandle where I live is central.
I've had a few friends from the Zerg forum. I'm retired so I can be on B.net any time.
I never had a fiend that I could play with. I won't ask someone to play at the slower speed because I know what that does to a ladder player. I don't want them to be broken like me. But we can do CO-OPS at the slower speed or some good old fashion 1v1 or 2v2.
I have four accounts. Unfortunately I've changed all of them to AncientOfDay, no 's' because of the 12 letter constraint. I can be up on any of them at any time because I'm leveling up on all of them.
You may have an advantage over me because I've gotten used to playing only against the AI. I'm the oldest known Zerg player at 74. I can play other Races but Zerg is my main.
I started playing StarCraft from the beginning which means I started playing in my 50's. After the campaigns I played a lot of FFAs and 1v2s, 1v3, and 1v4s.
I didn't even know there was multiplayer until SC2 beta. However the faster speed of the ladder took all the fun out of playing StarCraft because I had played all those years at the slower speed.
I tried to ad you but I need your account number also. If you don't know it off the top of your head log onto B.net or the forums and click your name and it is shown there.
I would have to log in and out four times to give you all of mine. Once we are friended we can exchange information and talk.
I can get back up to speed on skype if you have it. It is so much easer than typing conversations.
I grew up in N. Fort Myers. I live in Tennessee now, so I'm in the central time zone, as well. I do set up and tear downs of various music festivals throughout the year, so there will be weeks where I'm on the road and too tired in the evenings to do much more than fool around. But TomorrowWorld was canceled this year, and I didn't feel like scrambling trying to get a new gig. So, I'm technically on vacation until mid October. Even though I've spent the last 2 days doing quote "minor repairs" to the new place my aunt and uncle bought. So, while I'd like to say that I'm available whenever, I'm usually on between 7-10 p.m.
Even if my account says I'm away, I'm probably down for a break from editing to mix it up for a game or two. I actually haven't played a game of StarCraft in 3 weeks, because when I finally got home and realized I had time, I decided to start working on a quick project that is promising to spiral into an extended endeavor. I must warn you that I have a habit of staying logged in to Battle.net all the time, so I might not actually be on.
As far as play style and any advantage I might have, if we play anything past WoL you'll be ahead just because you'll know the tech trees and units better. And while I am "best" when I play terran, I like to mix it up a lot, so expect different matchups.
<3 i think.. being 74 playing sc should get you a spotlight from blizz. If you would ask to have the brutal on low speed they could find a solution.
i think blizz owes you the campaign on brutal/slow speed .. furthermore possibly you just need the proper cheat code (a message to type in the multiplayer chat box when you start each mission) to set the speed to slow.. and if you ask them they just might give it to you!
Possibly a mod adding the extra trigger (setting speed to slow) to them would work but i doubt it :/
Also, i never looked for the campaign but surely the files are easily accessible and once you downloaded them you just have to open them and set the speed at the end of the initialization trigger (yes it would be easier to go into the code and do them all at once but i'm skeptic :P

The only problem with either of those solutions is that he couldn't play through the campaign the way we all did. If he used a code, then he wouldn't be able to earn achievements. I came to you guys for help but maybe I did not express myself clearly.
I need a mod that when a campaign is loaded it will over ride the speed setting parameters so I can reduce the speed to slow or slower.
With the new file packing system I don't know how to get into the StarCraft client and change the settings.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Still alive and kicking, just busy.

After more research I find that I have posted in the wrong section.
So I have reposted in Galaxy Scripting.
