all comes down to vision. vision block minimum is 1 field, pathing for example can be more precise than that. if vision is only blocked by huge structures, not so important you can lower the size of all models to your liking. i lowered the size of units/models in Ling Slayers at about 25% where it doesnt look akward yet when 1 field is blocking vision.

All I know is that you can increase the size of one dimension by sacrificing size in another. Like for instance you can have 384x128. You have to do this through the Data Editor first before you can actually make the change on the map.
Is 256x256 the maximum map size we can use? Is there any way around this? I need more space for my map. :(

No, 256x256 is the maximium
:( I better start saving space then.
Apparently it is possible to generate terrain bigger than 256*256 but pathfinding and other systems break quite badly.
