I am diamond with protoss:D http:www.sc2ranks.com/eu/913984/Goa
The only reason I played so much with melee because of this crap popularity system.
But I am not really playing it anymore as protoss is way out of balance, I usually watch GSL instead and maping.D
(good job for blizzard to make me to do more maping.D)
Can't really stand sc2 melee maps but my WoW character has a few gladiator titles if that counts. But then I can't stand arena either so not sure what that proves...
Why Eiviyn, I never would have guessed that you happened to play WoW... On a completely different and unrelated topic, that wouldn't happen to be a Blood Elf Warlock in your profile pic, would it? ;)
But in regards to the topic, I really need to improve on my SC2 melee. My friend wants me to join him for 2v2s but I'm too embarrassed 'cause he waaaaaaaaay outclasses me :P
I'm not exactly 'good', but like to think I'm decent. I barely play (do more watching than actual playing) but ended up in the gold league in the 2v2 brackets with a pall not too long ago. I know the basic check-list of "Probes, Pylons, Low Minerals, Glance at minimap" but still have some difficulty executing it.
I think I'm a decent play but I don't spend enough time to be anything special. Also most of my time is spent in 3v3 or 4v4, which is a much more difficult game than 1v1, and it doesn't matter how good you are, mistakes by your team mates or yourself are much harder to recover from than 1v1.
But I prefer to spend more time modding than playing in general :)
Generally no, due to the fact that most people here spend more time making maps rather than playing them (and when playing, most people prefer playing customs). However, a surprisingly large amount are quite good :).
Btw, Being in diamond itself does not mean you are a good player;p.
2000 points+ diamond is very good.
2600 points+ diamond is pro.
This is not necessarily correct, it can just mean you play lots. Point in fact. He has a 50/50 win ratio which isn't very good, but is quite common for many people in diamond. You can tell better players by the fact they have significantly more wins than losses. 2-1 or 3-1 ratios.
You can also tell by the fact that many players with over 2000 pts who are the top of their league end up quite low on the top 200 players lists.

That is indeed true. Point inflation and bonus pool can further mar what a player`s true skill is. Win/loss ratio is one of the better measurements.
It's actually kind of annoying how the system works. In wow you could blaze up to 2500+ no problem if you were just good. In starcraft I'm like 90th in my diamond league and if I wanted to get to the top I'd pretty much have to play a billion games. And the longer I wait to do so, the more games I'll have to play to catch up since unlike wow, the system won't cap out around 3100.
Just curious. Cause I really suck at melee games. :P
I think I've seen quite a few diamond players kicking around the forums here. There's quite a few mapmakers who are good at melee.
Yeah actually surprisingly a lot of people on our irc are in diamond. It's interesting to see... some are really good and some suck haha.
