First of all, what are all of your opinions on this? It seems that SC2 maps are much harder to create and the creator should deserve due credit, but people are also new at the editor, and protected maps could contain valuable lessons...
Well, I'm not sure.
Still, is there a map protector out yet?
There's a way to make it uneditable by deleting actual lines of code in the map file, but i believe the full version will allow creators to claim full credit for their maps by the blizzard "store" for them.
Well my current map is just classic evolves, so I doubt I'll protect it xD
Though it did kinda take awhile to make...mostly because I had to figure everything out as I did so.
However, I do hope that the full version does what you say when I make my actual map.
I'm kind of on the fence about Map Protection. On one hand, being able to see how an author did something is great for people to learn and understand... On the other hand, it allows people to steal some maps and call it their own very easily.
When Map Publishing is implemented in GalaxyEdit in a future patch, it'll include a protection feature.
It's possible that once an editor publishes to battle.net, there will be an encrypted part of the file that display their name as the original author of the map no matter how many times it gets re-used. This would solve both problems, as long as no one tries to hack that part of it just to take credit for a map people will obviously see was published earlier than theirs with the same functionality.

if this the case I really don't see an issue with maps being open. back in the days of SC1 it was only annoying to have 100 versions of the same map because the downloads took so long. In the next few years or so internet speeds will be bumping up to gigs per seconds so I don't think downloads will be an issue.
Map protection is completely a decision of the author in my opinion. People will always be able to steal it but it's not so easy especially all the data and trigger content.
When we (Curse) were at BlizzCon last year ckknight got up and asked a question to the SC2 peoples during a session. They did say their would be some sort of map protection though didn't go into details.
@Xtek: Go
If they plan to have maps you can sell then it seems certain that there will be map protection, as if you could get the map you could just edit it a bit, rename and rehost it for free, with almost no effort.

I heard from a blizzard rep on a video regarding the editor they will make a map protection feature for maps. But you'll have to log in to it. so :P

I believe the Map Protection feature will be a function you can set yourself, you don't have to protect your map if you don't want to.
