What on earth are you talking about. If you are wanting to make maps bigger than the maximum size and players? well thats blizzards editor and its also blizzards game, we have always being limited because THEY SET THE RULES, they have always been in control.... seriously what the fuck are you on. you start and ramble about shit that isn't even related to the topic. I meerly mentioned that I do not want local hosting, this was my input, neither did I say custom games would die. But it does kill it for a lot of people. I cannot host on war3 servers because I live in australia there is no region close enough to me to have other players connect to me, thus making it impossible for me to host. I am not talking about downloading the maps from me, I'm talking about hosting. Nobody would be able play a lag free game, meanwhile on bnet 2.0 on blizzards servers I can host what ever I like. and I would like to keep it this way, do I like the populatrity system no, before you go start rambling that in a blizzard fanboy >.>.
So in that regard blizzards servers have done good. they have made it possible for EVERYONE to host custom games.
"With the current system you can't find a game you want to play" No I can't, and NOWHERE did i say I liked the popularity system. I said I liked blizzards servers hosting the maps for me... I like a lot of the ideas queengambit has displayed above, just not local hosting.. That is all...
You read into everyone being a popularity system fan, In every single thread you have a go at everyone... But you go offtopic so easily...
Jesus Christ, you keep playing it off like I'm talking nonsense, when you can't grasp simple facts. If we use Blizzard's servers, we have to abide by their rules. If we're required to host on their servers, it means we're limited. On WC3 I could go and host a map that was 40MB big, but on SC2 since I'm hosting on their servers, I'm limited to whatever ammount they set. This is what you simply fucking refuse to acknowledge, and instead try to derail the topic.
You can't have one without the other. You say you hate the popularity system and the like, but what you simply WILL NOT UNDERSTAND is that it's all the same fucking thing. You say you like the current hosting system, because it allows you to host lag-less games. Ok, how does it do that? Oh, that's right, by using blizzards servers. How does it utilize blizzards servers? Oh, that's right, by forcing map makers to upload their maps to said servers. And so it all comes down to lack of freedoms. Because without local hosting we're forced to upload our maps to Blizzard's servers, and as such are forced to abide by their shitty rules. Why can't you understand this? How are you so fucking dense? I mean I'm just not sure how to make this clearer for you. By wanting to keep local hosting, by extension you want to keep the horrible publishing system.
I'm not ranting about the popularity system, that's just you trying to drive this off-topic in an attempt to hide from your own nonsense. I'm trying to convey to you that you're supporting Blizzard's nazi-ism, you're supporting the notion that map makers should be oppressed by Blizzard. Again, aslong as we have to use blizzard's servers, we have to abide by their rules. We'll never see giant 1 GB total conversion RPG's like we could see in WC3. We'll never see fun, and yet politically incorrect maps such as 'Escape from Gay Heaven'. We'll forever be suppressed by Blizzard's totalitarian regime, only playing maps they want us to play. So aslong as you support using Blizzard's servers, you support this oppression, and THAT is why I am arguing with you, because you're standing against the map making community, you stand for ideas that keep map making down, and ultimately ruin it.
I didn't say you were talking nonsense, and nor am I.
Again it may be all connected, but fact is its probably staying this way, you need to step and back and accept this. All those variables with the current system can be changed, and updated, map file size will get continously increased, they have only designed a starting point and have increased it once allready. Premium maps may have an unlimited file size, who knows?
You go and ramble with a wall of text about our limitations and i will say it simply for you to understand. I do not want local hosting. Whether that means blizzard has to increase their upload amounts, change the popularity system add other features to give us more options is another arguement.
You don't have to convince everyone to have your opinion. Don't lash anyone who doesn't. And the system will probably stays this for a while.
Sorry, I loath anything to do with the custom map system since it's the single thing keeping me from getting, and enjoying this game. And as such I lash out at anyone who endorses it, in any fashion. There isn't a single shred of good in the custom content system, not one shred in any bit of it. I've played SC since it came out, and WC3 since it came out, both almost entirely for the custom content. And Blizzard comes in and fucks us all over so goddamned hard, we should all be tasting shit. And then to have someone actually SUPPORT them?
Even if it's in a relatively minor way, such as just supporting the no local hosting. I mean Blizzard's bullshit is bad enough, but to have my peers support them is just adding insult to injury, and it pisses me off. To have something you loved and spent oh so many hours on over the years, completely destroyed, and then to have people support it. I let my temper get the best of me, I know, but still. It boggles the mind how anyone could support any aspect of such an atrocious system.
Koronis, that's not constructive. You have been reported.
QueenGambit, i like the amount of effort your put into making them.
Good job man, its obvious you spent a long time doing this.
when i saw the first picture, i though of diablo 2's menu. ahhh fond memories =).
(i just think its coz i saw Bnet and Lan together...nm)
now to the interface, i like the transparency of the objects/windows; but i don't like the amount of information.
it feels a bit like information overload.
whats the button in the bottom left next to the menu button do?
i would like to see the irc/chat room window in the same colour as the instant messenger chat system in the bottom right.
this change will helps to clarify to the user: which of the windows are for chatting; and which of the windows that are for finding maps to play/forum posts.
on the custom game joining screen, i dont feel their is a strong link between the filter names ('created' 'section list' 'top 100' ) and what they actually do.
perhaps better words would have been 'sort by game names' 'sort by map name' 'show top 100'. These names would require more space, so you'd have to change a few things around.
i feel that if i was a user of this interface, i would get frustrated with windows getting in the way of other windows.
eg. the chat room window if over the top of the join custom game screen window, and i'd have to move it out of the way.
Over all, you've done some excellent work on this interface; I love the detailed editing that you've done in photo shop and it really shows.
Good job

Personally I would merge "Created" and "SectionList" into one robust list: find a game you want to play, then expand it like a folder to reveal the lobbies...keep the current system in the form of a comprehensive list of every map on Battle.net, sortable by any number of criteria (including popularity) such as upload date, rating, and alphabetical order. Actually this should still be the primary means of playing a game...In fact, merge the lobby concept into the comprehensive list. Then you can sort by "most recent hosted," select the game and see all the available lobbies.
I agree. I am trying to think of a way to put both Created and SectionList together. So that there will be ALL of those criterias combined in one list.
I will continue improving the pics to fit that.

Hosting games should remain on blizzard servers, not dedicated, it is inconvenient for a lot of players. hosting on their servers works perfectly fine and it works for everyone, where as dedicated did have its flaws....more rants vs colt...comeback comments on colts comments....comments the comments that commented the comment from colt and even though he typed a lot, it was easier to ignore it....more comebacks towards colt...
Actually yeah. Hosting should remain on Blizzard servers. People mistakenly associate dedicated servers with vs popularity list. My criteria on having game list like "LOL left 4 dead join now!!" can still work with Blizzard hosting it still. (I think?)

I thought this topic was about bnet as a whole, not JUST the popularity system. If your only intention is to find something slightly better then the popularity system, then sure, go ahead. But you're not fixing the root of the problem, you're just cutting off a few dead branches. The root of why Bnet sucks, is because Blizzard's taken too much control. In the past they've just created a playground and went "play nice and have fun", and left the community to it's own devices. In SC2 they stand guard around the playground, actively patrolling with stun-guns at the ready. So the only way to fix SC2 is to remove that presence, and restore control to the players. And aslong as we use their servers, that will never happen.
Looks very nice. altough i think a login will forever be required :( I mean, theres still the play offline option if i remember right, which actually does let you play vs AI normally. Maybe keep the starting screen the same?
Also, i checked the pictures yesterday so theyre not too fresh in my memory, but this is very well done. For a moment i was seriously thinking "Did blizz preview patch 1.2 with so much new stuff?" A second later of course i went "Yea, right... blizz doing that... har har" *slaps self*
And what of the idea of a cross between local and blizz hosting... When you host a map, you first temporarily upload it to the bnet server (it gets deleted after you log out for more than 10 mins), then host as you would in wc3, except that the connections arent forced to run through your computer and everyone being able to download the map from battle.net directly. Since the map is deleted after you log off, there arent any ridiculous amounts of rules that can be applied, either that or blizzard would have to have a team of people constantly hunting down all offensive games being hosted, which im sure would be a huge waste of money.
Also, dont write a huge wall of text with a million of complaints if you dont like this idea. Just simply say "i dont like it"
Why exactly did you not use the StarCraft 2 fonts for the pictures? The fonts are what throws me off from considering the pictures believable. Everything else seems to be done very well, but I can't judge like this.
I used a different font because its more pwetty but I can understand that the picture may seem unbelievable because they aren't the same fonts. Its funny how u comment on the font but not the awesome I N C E P T I O N!! dun dun dun
Stop hijacking threads with this endless Blizzard bashing and whining -_-
I feel so tired and drained after reading your posts.
Im deleting all such replies now in the future, because I can. This applies to you and everyone else. So watch what you write and stay on topic.
Hijacking? Why such nice nazi-ism. It was as ontopic as any post made in this thread. Seriously, your personal opinion is irrelevant. I mean jesus, of all my posts you pick the least hostile, and most ontopic to delete? I spent like 5 minutes writing that and you come in and up and delete it without any justifiable reason, way to go. If you don't like my posts, don't read them. Your job is to enforce the rules, last I checked throwing my two cents in isn't against the rules. I wasn't being hostile, I wasn't flaming, I wasn't going off-topic. I didn't break any rules, you had no right to delete my post.
Edit: @Almighty, since thy lord and god, the Moderator decided to delete my post, I'll write an abridged version. Shame too, since I was rather proud of my super long post.
The reason using Blizzard's servers will never work, is because we'll always be restricted by their rules. If we upload things to their servers, they're liable for the content and can get in trouble. If someone hosts say.. 'Kill all Niggers', Blizzard pays the price. So because of this they'll always restrict content.
Then there's the technical side, if everyone went and uploaded a 1gb map, the blizzard servers will explode. So because of this, they'll always restrict map size. These two things will forever keep custom gaming down, and shitty, forcing us to play small gimicky maps because anything else is deemed bad by Blizzard. Now I can't fault them for this, because it's simple necessity. But that doesn't make it any better. It still ruins custom gaming.
The only way to ever make it work, is if it's optional. If people can CHOOSE to upload their maps to Blizzard's servers, and thus must abide by their rules. Or they can choose to do the good old peer 2 peer method. That way, everyone wins.
Hijacking? Why nice nazi-ism. It was as ontopic as any post made in this thread. Seriously, your personal opinion is irrelevant. This thread is specifically focused around QueenGambit`s pictures and designs of a possible b.net interface. Its all meant to be taken light-heartedly, with calm and collected discussions.
Yet once again I see you start to debate(or more like "blabber" in a hostile manner) and cause tension/annoyance with your posts. Slowly but surely turning the thread away from OP and into a "Blizzard sucks, b.net 2 sucks, Blizzard is greedy, blah blah".
And Ive also received PM`s from some members complaining about you. So really, calm down, take a deep breath, Smell the roses outside, and post "constructively" . Ok?
Or rant/whine about Blizzard/Activision/b.net 2 elsewhere, because doing it excessively in a childish manner is not something anyone appreciates.
This thread wasn't about ANYTHING incase you haven't noticed. The OP was just a bunch of random images with the entire first page consisting of posts like "wat". So nice try, there. Furthermore, my post was in direct response to someone elses post that was dealing with the OP's ideas for Bnet. Honestly, you'd think a Moderator of all people could understand relevant posts.
This topic is about Gambits ideas for Bnet, he/she/it/entity suggested we use Blizzards servers even with player-hosted lobbies. So me explaining why that doesn't change anything suddenly has nothing to do with the topic? Riiiight. Then going by your logic, no post in this thread has anything to do with the OP, so every post should be deleted? It's not my fault you go and ignore 90% of my post, only picking up on a key phrases that state Blizzard's bad. Maybe if you decided to READ my post instead of out-right deleting it, you'd have noticed it's more ontop then half this thread. So again, great job, really flexing those moderating skills when you go and delete a post directly dealing with the subject matter. -Thumbs up.-
No its not that. Discussion is always a good thing, Whether its in direct relation to OP or not(Though the latter can be sometimes frowned upon in other community forums). The problem is rather in the manner in which you do it.
Hence the word Ive used many times now, "Constructive".
I could also write my opinions on how bad I think B.net 2 is(Although its not really THAT bad), but if I were to write from a counter perspective, it would certainly be calm, collected, backed up with facts/good arguments and no emotion involved. I would also firmly respect the opinions of others and not argue my point too far. Thats where you are getting it wrong. You get too worked up, and much negative emotion comes out in your posts, and that ruins everything.
Its possible that you perceive all im telling you to be "bad" and you wont end up listening to any of my advice, but Im only trying to be helpful;p
I`ll continue to delete any posts as I see fit. Keep in mind that Ive never had to resort to this before, and that there are many posts of your`s at the moment that should be deleted, but I just picked the last one which did have a hint of logical discussion in there. So you could get the "message". Next time, cut the excess out and you`ll be fine.
This discussion between us is also over.

Bitch on their forums. No use here. If all player would moan, all sc2 players, system would collapse.
And who doesnt understand this thread, avoid it.
(One)Man CAN'T make a difference in real world. People can. Man is who choose to.
I would so happily and gladly bitch on their forums if not for three things that kept me from doing so.
1: I can't access their forums, they crash my web-browser
2: When I do manage to access their forums, it wont let me log in (yes yes, I've used all the proper information, it just refreshes the page lawl)
3: If I did tell them why their system sucked, even in a civil way, they'd probably ban me.
So I'm relegated to ranting in threads on here. Atleast I keep my rantings into threads directly dealing with the system, though :(
Lets talk about my photoshop images. What do u guys think?

The only way to ever make it work, is if it's optional. If people can CHOOSE to upload their maps to Blizzard's servers, and thus must abide by their rules. Or they can choose to do the good old peer 2 peer method. That way, everyone wins.
You were doing the exact same thing with
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/general-chat/14020-suggestions-for-improving-the-popularity-system-images/?page=4#posts
