A friend who doesn't have beta key tried it : We can have access to SC2 editor and to testing without any beta key, as we don't need to connect to Bnet.
You have to get the beta client, launch the .exe and get latest patchs, then you can launch the editor, and use the 'Test' function to play your game, and you don't need any beta key for that.
And then if you make fastly a melee map, you can play against the AI and discover SC2 if you couldn't until now, and you don't need any crack.
Through that way you can also get your friends' maps and test them and then play them, all that without beta key !
Well, you'd have to share your client or something in order for them to get the client itself. And technically, the only way to get the client is to have a beta key.
Blizzard probably won't care if you download the client and use their map editor. You won't get access to the game or be able to play any maps without an account. Kinda worthless to play AI over and over again.

Through the 'Test' function, you can play any map you get, UMS or melee, and note that playing AI can be a beginning to people that couldn't play nothing until now.

Personally I care more about familiarizing myself with the editor then online play at this point! So this is great news to me.

Beta client can be downloaded from some sites, but I don't know if it's authorized by Blizzard.
Well, *cough*, that'd be illegal, :P.

You could download the client on a friends computer
