Today I received another great idea for a custom map for starcraft 2. With this idea I would go on an adventure to create it and then tweak it for a few months until it is stable and fun to play, however there is one problem. My editor does not start and blizzard doesn't give a @$#%! I have sent several support requests to blizzard and finally one was replied to and this is what I got.
Good day!
Thank you for contacting us in regards to the StarCraft II Editor, Luke! You have my apologies for any difficulty you may have experienced with the editor.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer technical assistance with the Editor. The Editor is provided as a bonus, for players to tinker with and create their own custom content. While we encourage players to explore the possibilities with the Editor, we are unable to assist you with any technical issues you may have while running it.
However, we have created a Custom Maps forum on the StarCraft II Community page: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/13437/. This forum also includes a sticky titled "GalaxyEditor FAQ (Problems & Solutions)" that may prove helpful for troubleshooting your issue.
If you have any non-Editor related issues regarding StarCraft II, please feel free to let me know. =)
Should you respond to this mail, please be aware that my work hours are Sun - Thu 11 AM - 8 PM PST. If you attempt to contact me outside this time, a delay in response may occur; after this time, I would highly recommend calling 1 (800) 592-5499 (8 AM - 8 PM PST) or emailing [email protected]. If you would rather maintain contact with me, I would be glad to continue our correspondence. Thank you!
Note this was a while ago.
Now today I just lost it and wrote a lengthy complaint about why produce software and not support it and the pointlessness of even responding to me if they cannot offer me support. But I know that even though I have fully co-operated and provided all the information they would need they will not help me.
But if anyone here has gotten the same problem please help me, I cant run the editor because once it does its 'splash screen' loading it crashes, without me seeing the editor. It originally worked for a week or so but now its gone, presumably from an update. I have more than met the system requirements and all hardware and software drivers are up to date, I have even gone through the forum mentioned above and done every slightly relevant piece of support.
Sorry you had to hear me rant on but it needs to be said.
I dunno man, I've been pretty vocal in a lot of anti blizzard rants about how they treat their mappers, but this is actually pretty cool of blizzard to actually send you an email.

Why is it pointless for them to give us bonus software? Though I played WC3 exclusively for custom content so Blizzard's inclusion of the editor actually gained them sales, that doesn't change the fact that it is a BONUS. Do I think they should support it? Yes, it will gain them more customers as quality custom maps attract users, but it's their loss if they don't support it. At the same time though, IT IS THEIR CHOICE. If they think the lost sales from not supporting the editor is worth it, it is their right to make the decision. The explicitly state that the editor is not supported by Blizzard technical staff so it's not as if they're going back on their word. They made the decision not to support it and simply release it as a bonus and they are standing by that choice. Nothing wrong there.
As for their response, it too, was not pointless. I personally would prefer Blizzard to respond with disappointing news then pretend I don't exist. It's nice of them to take the time to write you a message even if it's not what you want to hear.
Anyway, I hope you can resolve your issue with the editor soon and I'm sorry for the lack of help you are receiving, but I just don't think you can really blame Blizzard in this case.
Actually the OP's right. In the past he'd be wrong, because in the past the editor WAS a bonus. But in SC2 they've intricately tied the editor to the game, forcing you to activate it via your account. The editor is no longer simply a bonus for the community, they made it a key part of the game. They can't go and make it a part of the game, and then refuse to support it. So I agree with the OP, that's pretty bullshit. If they didn't wanna support it, they shoulda left it more open like in the past. I mean on WC3 we had third party editors, we had options, so it was acceptable for Blizzard not to support it. But on SC2 we'll never have third party editors, we'll never have options, least they could do is support the product they force us to use.
Why should blizzard care that you cant figure out how to properly .... uninstal/ reinstall SC2. Also its in the uela that the editor is as it is and is a non-supported piece of software.
If uninstal and reinstall does not fix it. There is something wrong with your computer.

Blizzard can't afford to train all of its tech support to be experts in the editor. Some of them would probably even quit their job if they had to do that.
When you boot up the editor, the loading screen specifically states, "Blizzard will not support this product." I fail to see what it is you're arguing. Blizzard won't support it. You can't force them to. That's why we're here. We support the editor. Yay!
Actually the OP's right. In the past he'd be wrong, because in the past the editor WAS a bonus. The editor is as much as part of the game as it was in Warcraft III or even in Warcraft I (yes, this game had an editor!).
How do they force you to activate it? You only need to activate it if you want to use it. So someone who's not into mapping is not forced to anything. Also, War3 Editor actually forced you to buy the game before using it - how's that any different?
Secondly, what makes you so sure that there will never be any third party editors? They didn't pop up in Warcraft until long after release, too.
Actually there are several editor extensions and even small custom editors in the making right now. You're talking nonsense.
And what kind of "options" did we have in Warcraft III which we don't have now anymore? I can't think of anything relevant.
Lastly, what they support and what not is up to them. They do not officially support the editor, because they don't want to have to answer every noob's question on how to do this or that. And I'm sure they still get spammed by these.
Also, they do support the editor, don't they? Patch 1.1 gave us more editor fixes than actual game fixes. And they already announced a lot of new things for 1.2 and future.
H o w _ a r e _ t h e y _ n o t _ s u p p o r t i n g _ i t??
They definitely support it via patches, they just don't support it by holding your hand. Mappers are generally good and interested in working things out anyway, so it's not much of an issue.
If you aren't happy with the editor at the moment or the way the system works, simply take a break and come back in a few months to see if they have fixed it.
There's too many whiners and drama queens at the moment.
I have reinstalled a few times before posting the topic and the repair tool didn't pick anything up, I've gone through and removed registry data as well.
"Why is it pointless for them to give us bonus software?"
If you interpreted this I am sorry I did not mean this. I meant that it is pointless at least by these days standards to produce software and not provide support, considering that they could be the only people that could resolve these problems. If they built it they should be able to fix it, but unfortunately the programmers that built it would probably be too busy to do this and instead would be patching.
"Why should blizzard care that you cant figure out how to properly .... uninstal/ reinstall SC2. Also its in the uela that the editor is as it is and is a non-supported piece of software."
I think after running the repair tool uninstalling was the second thing I did mate. I'm not an end user. I also know its in the EULA that they don't support the editor such was the case in Warcraft 3 as well but not supporting software that is produced by yourself isn't done these days in propriety software, these days its considered lazy. But I can understand why they don't the argument is that they should and my case is an example of the effects to a customer of such circumstances.
"If uninstal and reinstall does not fix it. There is something wrong with your computer." Lets just say I almost enjoyed the humor in this response.
"Blizzard can't afford to train all of its tech support to be experts in the editor. Some of them would probably even quit their job if they had to do that."
That could be true but it all depends on the way blizzard went about it, they wouldn't need to train everyone they could do an 'expertise' system to their customer support and run off management tables from there, also a standard BMS Pyramid Model could implement their new customer service system nicely, but then again I'm not their systems analyst.
"Secondly, what makes you so sure that there will never be any third party editors? They didn't pop up in Warcraft until long after release, too."
Sadly this may be my only hope if I cant fix this issue.
"H o w _ a r e _ t h e y _ n o t _ s u p p o r t i n g _ i t??"
By not taking the time with their customers to get the software to run. I know i didn't pay for it and therefore they don't have to do anything but if more than just me had the same problem, lets just say a couple thousand has the same problem they would be obliged to look into it and this is my situation, stuck without any support other than my own and that provided by generous strangers on forums.
"If you aren't happy with the editor at the moment or the way the system works, simply take a break and come back in a few months to see if they have fixed it.
There's too many whiners and drama queens at the moment."
Pretty much what my plan has been since it stopped working and after realizing it wasn't getting fixed. But I'm still allowed to be pissed off that I can't have fun mapping.
If anyone here however would like help with their own projects unfortunately I cannot do my terraining but I am talented with photoshop, I'll do anything for free as long as its not a full display sized 'collection'.
your lucky you got to talk to a nice tech staff person, he even sent a happy face ur way
"If you have any non-Editor related issues regarding StarCraft II, please feel free to let me know. =)"
its true, blizzard doesn't support the editor in any way; and so their tech staff would not be trained to help either.
but that particular guy (Sherman .O) replied, and even did a little bit of research and sent you a link back.
Thanks to masterxel he had a look at the crash log, he told me it was probably a DirectX error.
My system has been having these errors recently so I've done a bit of reinstalling drivers etc. and when it came to directx it said there was an error in the install after finishing. This means my system is generally screwed and I will re-format and reinstall windows in a few weeks. Ill keep you guys posted on the results.
Fair enough. To be fair it's pretty hard to expect blizzard to deal with all of these sorts of problems when it's your computer and not their software. You are generally going to be better off asking the community for suggestions first.

no dont do that. dont even think about your system beeing compromised. better write letters to blizzard how they suck to releasing software which does not run and which they refuse to fix. i bet this will help!
That doesn't change the fact that bashing Blizzard over something as this is stupid, Shaelis. It's comparable to you going out on the road in a Ford stripped of everything but its chassis, wheels, engine and steering wheel, and then when you break half your bones in a crash sueing Ford for making unsafe cars.
The least you can do before turning to Blizzard and shouting at them is making sure that it's not your entire PC that's compromised. I should know, as it's a mistake I've made before. You don't go and complain that games show artifacs if your video card is broken.
That said, there's no need to bash him over it either - Ryaneko's post wasn't exactly out of line, though.
I'm not THAT great at technical stuff. I would be able to help if I could actually look into your computer and make sure the fans are working, nothing's broken, nothing's steaming, nothing's old, etc. Anyway, if it isn't a problem with your computer itself, then it's narrowed down to memory, programs blocking it, and bad software. That's the part where I can't help you. My father would be good at everything except the editor itself, because he's not familiar with it. But, he's still unnavailable, so your kinda outta luck. :(
