Colt556, less aggression and more constructive posts please;p
No offence, but you tend to rant like a lunatic all the time when it comes to the popularity system. Take a deep breath , Calm down, and be sensible. Calling people idiots and retards is uncalled for. Fix your attitude please. It reeks of bitterness and hostility, which is not welcome on this site.
My post WAS full of hostility... not so much bitterness. I hate stupidity in any shape or form, and people going around saying we have to stick it out, it's our obligation to wait for Blizzard to fix it's shit pisses me off. Everything about the popularity system pisses me off, and the fact that people are so ready to defend it pisses me off. I waited for over a decade to get this game, only to have Blizzard fuck me over at the last second with this shit, so yeah, whenever it's brought up I get mad. And people being exceptionally retarded only makes that anger more predominant. But since you're a mod, and I can't exactly say "no", I'll try to tone it down.
Colt seriously, If you hate stupidity....... I consider people whining about something for over 2 weeks stupid... sorry had to throw that out there.
BTW when Colt start complaining about the pop system on a topic... I think its time to close the topic.
Either way, good luck Bounty, hopefully well see some new projects come for you in the future. Till then good luck with what ever else you put your time in to.

What you consider stupid is kind of irrelevant, don'tchya think? I don't exactly conduct myself according to what other people find appropriate, just what I find appropriate. And I find defending such a broken system to be stupid, not to be arguing against it.

Your a very stupid person you know. Is that irrelevant too? Leave the thread and let it die!

Quote someone defending the popularity system in this thread. I don't know what you are reading here, but it isn't what the rest of us are.

You're defending it by saying we owe Blizzard, and we're obligated to stick it out. How many posts have you made "just continue making maps and wait for Blizzard". You may not be directly defending the Popularity system in this thread, but you're indirectly defending it by saying we should stick it out instead of ditch it. Sticking it out isn't gonna get the system fixed, so why should we bother? If we don't get enjoyment out of producing something that'll never get used, why aren't we allowed to quit and move onto a system that isn't shit?
You don't have to go "The popularity system is AWESOME!" to be defending it, you can defend it through other means, which is what you're doing.
No, what I'm saying is that you should do what you enjoy. If you don't enjoy making maps, then you may as well quit now because you're here for the wrong reasons. This isn't a job. It's a hobby at best and a game at worst. If you don't enjoy it, then what are you doing it for? If you do enjoy it, then what difference does the popularity system make to your map making hobby?
Yeah, the popularity system sucks. Been hearing this since June and by now it's a case of deal with it or sod off. No, that isn't defending the popularity system. That's me telling you to play the hand you're dealt.

Now see, you're changing your tune, either that or you're not very good at expressing yourself. Since the start of this thread you've been saying "you only want e-fame so either map for the right reason (my reason) or leave". I, and others, have been telling you that we're here to map for whatever reason we choose, and it's not JUST about creating, but also playing what we create. You've argued against this fact, you're the one saying it doesn't matter why we enjoy mapping, all that matters is we enjoy it the way you do, otherwise we're in the wrong.
As for hearing about the pop system sucking, if you've been hearing that it sucks for SO long, maybe that's saying something. Why should we deal with it? Why should we "play the hand we're dealt"? God, can you imagine where society would be if everyone played by those rules? Nothing ever changed from sitting around doing nothing, atleast bitching about the system keeps the notion alive, makes sure NOBODY forgets how horrible the system is. Because as soon as we all accept it, and deal with it, we'll grow accustomed to it and it will never change. The day we stop spamming various forums with hate threads is the day the system is cemented in place, and will never be fixed.
In the end, this thread started out as a map maker informing the community he was done, and you telling him he was wrong for leaving a shitty system behind, and me (and others) calling you out on that. It's gone off-topic at this point, but that's what it all boils down to. You tried to make Bounty seem like the bad-guy for leaving, for not sticking by Blizzard despite Blizzard endlessly screwing us over, and some of us just don't like that very much.
I wonder what it is that you read when you see what others type, because typically your replies don't even seem to correlate to what you're quoting. I'll make it real simple so that you can't possibly misunderstand me.
It is stupid to have a hobby that you don't enjoy.

If you do not enjoy mapping, then don't.
Considering I wasn't the first to call you out, it isn't just me. Either you're not conveying your thoughts, or you're changing them after getting caught. Because when I look back at to page one, I can see others responding before I did. All you're doing now is saying what we've been saying since the start, glad you finally agree.
If you are mapping for what pathetic amounts of e-fame are associated with it, by all means give up. If you are mapping because you enjoy it, then this topic is a waste of time; perseverance.
I think Bounty made the right choice. The custom map community just isn't there - I don't even play them anymore and I know that I am not the only one. Blizzard does put in some effort to improve editing / custom map community, but Colt has a point in that they have failed to make a single significant change in over half a year. They haven't even given a hint about what they're doing, and it's hard to design a map for a shadowy distribution system about which we know nothing. I have been working on, for example, an extensive single player campaign, but of late, I haven't bothered. Because there's really no delivery system available for it. What am I going to do? Release it as a zip file and have people play it by loading through the editor? Okay let's say I load it up through Battle.net - but I use a mouse-look camera and it performs horribly on B.Net. Actually, in general, there's a 10 to 20% decrease in frame-rate which is entirely inexplicable to me. I certainly can't upload the whole thing with the size restrictions I'm given, nor is loading from one map into another currently supported. They say they will add support, but when? The real issue at hand is that Bounty (and many other mapmakers) do not trust Blizzard anymore.
Insofar as Eiviyn / Colt argument. You both make silly remarks at one another. Colt, you have a point, but you are overly aggressive and therefore annoying. Though, what your detractors fail to understand (or, rather, they understand but fail to remark upon) is that if you were not so vitriolic, you would certainly not be as well remembered as you are, which is your goal.
Eiviyn, you yet seem to miss the point. While it is certainly foolish to have a hobby that you do not enjoy, Bounty's post is about how his once-enjoyable hobby was ruined by the popularity system / Blizzard. That is altogether reasonable. People don't just flip a switch between doing something and not doing it. Bounty enjoyed it once but gradually became disillusioned and wanted to vent. Why should his enjoyment of map-making not hinge on having a decent system to allow him to share that map? That purity nonsense about only taking pleasure from the mapmaking itself is just that. Nonsense.
Do you know how many people wrote novels before the printing press was invented?
I just want to add something about Nexus Wars. It is successful because it fits perfectly the popularity system (fast, replayable ...) but also mainly because it has been constantly bumped since the beta. This way it is always on page 1!
If you want your map being played and they do not really fit the popularity system. Take a mouse recording program, create a game, stay in it 5minutes and 1 seconds, repeat all the night. You will have 150 direct played and about the same by being on top at in the morning. This way you will be page 1 and be played until the next reset.
While this is not the most ethical way to go, this actually works extremely well!

Yeah i know all about the bumping thing lol. The only time i did this was the other day and i had myself and a bunch of people who enjoyed Ling Ling Rocket! Bump it to about 15-20 plays. People took it from there and got it to 100+ games. 3-4 Hours later they reset it... then about 4-5 hours after that they reset it AGAIN. I understand that doign this works but i would much rather keep working on my map rather then constantly have to check the list for a reset and keep bumping it. Even doing what i just said made me feel alittle cheap and dirty lol i want people to play my maps because they want to, not because its the first thing they see.
Yep this works just fine on EU, where you can get a comfortable bottom page 2 spot after 24h of boosting.
You can't imagine how fucked up is NA where everyone is doing this though, it's not really applicable there.
Who are you to judge what is an acceptable and unacceptable reason for map making? Why should it matter if someone is making a map for fun, for 'e-fame', for money, or for their friends and family? If people are map making for ambitious reasons (like bounty or colt) then I wish the best of luck to them because that incentive will probably result in better maps.
P.S. You need to upload Catalyst to the US server because it looks awesome!
Yeah. I'm not bothering to even start modding till Blizzard picks up their act. I've played WoW long enough to know that just because something is atrociously wrong does not mean Blizzard will fix it. To anyone frustrated, I suggest you just do what S3rius said. Lurk in the shadows and see what happens.
I definitely am not going to be pouring my life into making a great map that Blizzard will, in essence, profit from until they prove they have a system that warrants people pouring their life into.
