When is blizzard going to fix their custom map discovery system?
Brood war was successful because the maps were sorted by creation time; newly created games of that map were listed first.
Despite all games being grouped by map now, this can still work:
Why not list the maps in order of game creation time instead of popularity?
Since newest games will be listed on top, this will give new maps at least a small amount of time on the front page.
I wonder how many threads there has been about this already :O *gets lost in head* Anyway, If you were actually asking this as a question and not rhetorically, we have no idea since none of us (that we know of) works at Blizzard and Blizzard has yet to commented on the subject from what I can find.
As to the continuation of your post, there are many ideas that are superior to Blizzard's popularity system, Blizzard wanted to try something different that fits with their new publishing system, and I would hope that they are working on more ways to browse for games on B.net, but until we'll have to sit by and qq.
