I'm curious about trying out the SC2 editor, I loved playing around with the Broodwar one back in the day. But I was wondering, is it possible to make something similar to what they did in the SC2 campaign, IE, make it so you don't have to play the levels in a certain order, and make it so you earn money / research to upgrade your units?
Yes you can have stats or other data saved between mission using banks. The only thing you can't do is link the maps together on battle.net, but it can be done playing the maps offline.
Money / research isn't too hard to do, being able to do levels in a different order and have the game remember which ones you did and which ones you didn't however might be complicated.
You can lock maps for players with passwords and stuff. But they will be very irritated if you do that. Battle.net is not very supportive of campaign style custom maps in general.

I didn't think it was that hard...
I thought it was as simple as a bunch of booleans saved into your banks...
