Hi.
Anyone can tell me how to change maximum number of players in editor? On Game UI Data in xml view I found default variants for melee and arcade where is max players set up to 16, but I don't know how to change that. Please help :)
The editor has a max-cap at 14 players (I think). One player has to be neutral and one player has to be hostile. So you have 14 players to play with. If you want make an arcade game with 14 players you have to first "activate" these player slots in Map/Player properties. Set all 14 player controllers to User. But do not set any other properties like race etc! This will make it impossible to publish the game. This is a very common problem and source of confusion for new map-makers. To set the specifics of player race/controllers you have to go into Map/Game Variants. Here, uncheck the Default Variants button and add your own. You can now set things like team-size and race limitations of the players, as well as if that player can be controlled by a computer. If you at player controller remove the "computer" option, then the +AI button in the game lobby will be disabled for that slot.
Another thing: sc2 is built like most rts games around a deterministic engine. In a FPS you have a small number of players whos engines are guessing the next state and then get corrected by a central server who is the control-point. In RTS games there is no central server. Instead each client runs an exact copy of the game. A couple of times each second all clients get all clients latest inputs and then at a given signal applies them all to the game engine - which results in that all clients next state will be exactly the same.
A result of this is that for every added player - the lag will increase exponentially. All players will be forced to run the game with the slowest connection among the players. So: an advice is to keep the number of players as low as you can while still maintaining the fun. Also - there is a limited number of players at battle.net. Its no CoD you know. So it might be hard to find enough players to fill up all 8-10 slots. Better to build the game around 2-4 players, its much easier to find that many people!
