Hey! I'm a budding editor, and I haven't really faced many issues that dealt with creating UI before. So here's the breakdown.
I need a button set up to open a menu. (Trigger made, but not working - possible issue with variables)
The menu needs to have individual buttons that use an ability. (Not working yet.)
The menu is done using 4x4 array.
It sounds like a lot, and I totally understand if no one wants to help me ;_; but thanks to anyone who does!
I know that this seems dumb, but I just need to know what I need to do to create a dialog button that triggers some event when it is pressed. My current setup isn't working.
Dialog - Create Dialog
Dialog - Hide Dialog Background
Dialog Item - Create Dialog Item Button for last created Dialog
Dialog Item - do stuff for the button
Set Variable OnScreenButton = Last Created Dialog Item
Dialog - Show Last Created Dialog for all players
Other Trigger:
Event: User clicks dialog item
Condition: Used dialog item == OnScreenButton
Actions: do what needs to be done when the button is clicked.
This is basically what you need to do.
If you need more help, it might help posting what you tried that doesn't work as wanted.
Then I (or someone else) can prolly post the mistake you made with the trigger(s).
This way you learn from your mistakes :)

Do you just want a dialog setup like this:
Ascii image because I didn't want to create a paint one ;p

I already have a menu completed like that. I do, however, need to create a button that opens a dialogue such like that. Thanks!

you can create dialogs without background, and place buttons on it. Or you can create screen buttons to do that job.
it is not much different from creating a dialog menu with buttons.

Map init:
Dialog - Create Dialog
Dialog - Hide Dialog Background
Dialog Item - Create Dialog Item Button for last created Dialog
Dialog Item - do stuff for the button
Set Variable OnScreenButton = Last Created Dialog Item
