Is there any custom minimap or UI layouts that can somehow allow pings? (best option would be able to move the default minimap to another spot and pick and choose which other UI functions to show but I dont think thats possible)?
What do you mean it doesn't work? I used that for my old zergling burgers map. I don't know if it shows pings, but it does work fine as a minimap. It shows units and everything. Unless they suddenly changed something so now it doesnt work.. Also layout files are more difficult and (I think) blizzard recently disabled them or something....

That one only allows the Minimap to be placed elsewhere, but it doesn't gain all the functionality of the actual minimap. It does display the minimap information, but it does not display the minimap extra s like pinging, camera bound updates, etc.
But since we can now use Layout files I suggest using those for moving the minimap. Especially since it allows you to keep all the functionality, instead of losing some of it.
I knew their was show/hide ui frame but that leaves the minimap frame and a black background where the minimap was. I was looking for something that would hide minimap and frame and show everything.
show/hide UI Frame ( Console panel ), hides the entire bottom bar, ( minimap background, infopanel background, commandcard background) that's the closest you can get without using custom frames for it.
I'm currently using a custom ui system based off of your tutorial. It includes custom command card, unit wireframe everything almost including a custom minimap and frame for it.
Now that you know that i'm using your advanced system how can i work with it to make it hide my minimap and its frame?

Okay i figured that out... That only hides the minimap not the frame for it.
I need my custom minimap frame to hide when a dialog button or something like that is clicked.
The reason i want that is because at the current moment the minimap takes away some of the players view. So i'd like to hide\show it when a button it clicked.

add the frame inside the minimap panel, and make it size around the minimap and not the minimap panel.
Okay so i figure i need to put my put Minimap Border inside Minimap Panel but wouldn't that mess up the reference call for name="MinimapPanelBorder"? How would i go about changing the reference correctly?
Okay so basically i'm saying i don't know how to do that.
As previously announced, in our next client patch we will be disabling the unsupported method of replacing built-in SC2Layout files in custom maps.
To avoid potential issues that could be caused by this change, all map authors who are currently using this method should convert their maps to use the Custom Layout File system as soon as possible. If you're unfamiliar with what's changing or how the Custom Layout File system can be used to customize your maps, please be sure to review our earlier announcement for more information: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/2267589748

Yep my entire map is done the correct way. So I'll have no problems what so ever when the next patch comes out. Thanks for the warning though zeldarules.

if you use the layout file modifications. Pings should work just fine.
cool thx, i will mess around with that...when i stopped progress on my map in October, there wasnt any layout modifications

You can make a dialog and then stick the minimap inside it. It is a "live" minimap and shows unit positions, vision, etc...
Like this: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/resources/tutorials/6223-trigger-default-minimap-and-commandcard-outside-the/#p1
I haven't confirmed it works with pings, but it should since your just moving it to a dialog.
Zelda .... that doesnt work....
Why even mess with dialogs when you can completely position and customize the mini map through the Layout files?

Quick question
yup, Show/Hide UI Frame -> Show/Hide Minimap (trigger action)

Code
try this:
and use set camera bounds (Update Minimap) to limit the minimap area displayed.
Works like a charm. Thank you so much Helral once again your experience helps my make my map even more cool.
