Hey all, been a while since I checked in here, has the problems in the subject been resolved or worked around yet? Had to put my map on hold ages ago because of them, and have had desires to pick up the editor again, but without one of these walls broken down.. well yeah.
Have some good news for me maybe?
I did some searches on catalog values, but as far as I can tell from these and the official forums, blizzard hasn't unlocked the ability or command card values yet. But Ive been wrong before :)
If all they have to be is "unlocked" then you might be able to dig around a bit in some of the editor files and modify some code. I would ask a programmer.
On the other hand, if they have to be programmed in with the rest of the code then you've got a bit of a problem.
Depending on what you're trying to do, there might be a plausible work-around.
The catalog fields are locked by blizzard, no one knows why, but they are not editable via SetCatalogFieldValue.
Im trying to make a system, when equipping an item grants an ability, either passive, or activated. These abilities will number into the 100's(already fleshed out on paper), and be modified by the stats of the unit that has equipped it, eg; having a 'Stike' ability, whose damage increases with the strngth of the unit that has it equipped.
As far as I know, this can only be accomplish by adding/removing abilities on the fly, and being able to add/remove command card buttons on the fly. Because Im pretty sure I cant fit 100+ abilities onto a unit, nor the 100+ command card buttons. Making a unit for each combination of abilities is not realistic either.
Soo.. Unless they have finally brought the SC2 editor up to the level of WC3... My map is impossible to create.
I'm not sure if there's a command card button limit (you can stack buttons) but I know there's an ability limit per unit. It's around 31 or 32, not sure exactly. Which makes no sense. I can't see why Blizzard would limit abilities in this way.
The best thing for what you may be thinking is to have a dialog-based ability system. It would be rather complicated though. This should get you around the limits problem. I'm thinking if you create hidden units with no collision and force them to always be right on top of your hero, you can load them with the abilities you want, then use the dialog to order them to cast their ability on a target.
