Is there a way to make a player, who's controller is "hostile" or "computer", to unally themself and have their own units attack eachother?

No, you'd have to setup a dummy player
Setting up a Dummy Player in player properties and setting it to the same color of the desired player is a way you could do it.
Then, I bet somehow you could change the name to the name of the desired AI player, don't know that part though.
You could probably also modify the attack ability and any other abilities to consider friendly units as targets.

Player cannot auto-acquiring itself - it is "hard coded" as some would call it.
