Im trying to figure out the bare minimum to move a unit towards a targeted point with force effects.
Not haing much luck.
I have tried going through prozaics muze's Force Effect Tutorial, but there too much extra stuff.
Basically I detect an ability targeting a point, with a trigger event. Then I want to start moving the unit towards the targeted point with force effects.
I dont want any animations, sounds, or damage. I just want it to move in the direction of the targeted point but im not having much luck.
Ok got futher
Created a force effect (I had to change the Target of the effect to be the Caster or Source Unit, and I had to change the targeted point to be the Targeted point. These two values by default are set the other way around. Force effects tend to be based more on Units being nocked away from the caster unit or pulled to the caster unit. Doesnt seem like they are really intended to move the caster unit.
Effected unit = caster
Source point = target
Force = -1
Created a trigger that detects when dummy ability is cast
I have a loop in my trigger that applies the force
I wanted to loop till the unit is near the targeted point but the units actuall position is not updated after the apply force. So i created a temp point where i guess where the unit should be and use that. This kinda works. I can do a move unit instantly to update the units position, but that kinda defeats the purpose of using force effects at all.
Action (Enviroment - Apply effect to unit "using the custom force effect")
After applying several force effects to the unit, the unit eventually runs back to its position it was at prior to be applying any force effects too it.
Can also use the modify unit effects to life or lower the unit, ProzaicMuze's tutorial also covers this as affecting how well the apply force can work.
Well I got my my trigger to work. Main problem I have now is that when you move a unit with a force effect, it doesnt actually change the position of the unit. The units model seems to run back to the starting position of the unit after the force effect are done moving the unit.
things im not sure about
updating units position after force effect is applied
stuttering movement from force effects.. if i wanted a unit to leap in a direction for about 5 units of distance. How many force effect applications do you think it would be needed ... at what strength. currently I have been applying force of -1 and -.1 they both are pretty minor and it takes alot of these.
From what I have learned so far about force effects im starting to wonder if it would make more sense just to simulate my own physics through pure triggers using Move instantly with blending. Rather then going to full data with persistent effects applying force effects
Actually I think I might give a periodic behavior applying the force effect a chance if i can figure out how to tell the behavior what the source point for the force effect should be.
well the unit isnt modifed to be flying. I dont believe porzaic muze does that in his force effect tutorial either.
correct me if im wrong on that. But the Unit does get moved. I also lift the unit off the ground with a height modification effect.

what do you mean force effect. U know the issue order action right? but thats not what u mean right?
No sound n stuff okay, but you still have to modify unit to flying or else it wont move an inch.

A force effect is an effect that moves a unit, uses some kinda physics is my understanding so far.

height modification is purely cosmetic.
i tried playing with force once, and flying units simply behave differently (more responsive) while ground units just turned the way i pushed them.
Try using force on both ground unit and flying unit, and see difference for yourself.

Ill check it out the flying thing.
