One more simple theme while I'm in a rush, hopefully some more specific stuff in the coming weeks. This week's theme shall be "The Arena". What does this mean? As usual, it's a wide and encompassing term: the idea is that you design some sort of an Arena. Whether this is a Terran-made arena where Zerg fight eachother for the civilians' entertainment, a Zerg-on-Zerg evolutionairy battle bit or Protoss Zealot initiation training grounds is up to you - as long as it has the makings of an Arena.
Wow this is great! I need to make an arena map for the map I am developing right now anyways. I want it to be a separate playable map similar to the arena in Fable The Crucible where players can ally up to fight waves of increasingly difficult enemies, or where they can do a PvP in FFA/teams matches etc. So this would be a great exercise for that arena, and I may or may not use this one I am making now. But I will plan to make a couple smaller arenas with major differences in mood, feel and play style. I will edit this post with some pictures soon.
Edit: I haven't started on the arenas yet but I made the lobby area for the arena. This is where the players would select the game mode, buy potions and equipment, etc. Let me know what you think of it so far! I dont think it looks very good personally, and don't really know what to add to make it look better...
It doesn't seem possible for anyone to make an ugly looking Zerus terrain, does it? I love how overgrown that one is Scrin, though I wonder if with the thickness of the foliage and such that would be playable - would be sick if it were.
I bet they could if they really tried, heh. I think I only spent 30 minutes on that.
Haven't tested it, my guess is on a computer like mine... About... 150 frames? A drop of about 100 frames, I average at 250.
That still looks pretty good. It's aparently the worst zerus ever, so obviously there's one or two little tidbits that can be fixed, but other than that, a solid map.

I wasn't worried about the framerate, but moreso about the player knowing what areas are walkable and which aren't...
Nice terrain, the 2nd picture a little right from the center of the image there is one light green thing that looks like a serpent eye and a little below it some leaves make it look like teeth, with the blood it's like the head of some monster, nice effect there.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #127
Hey folks!
One more simple theme while I'm in a rush, hopefully some more specific stuff in the coming weeks. This week's theme shall be "The Arena". What does this mean? I'm curious what'll come up this week. Good luck!

Oh, early this time? Maybe I can squeeze in a terrain...
@ScrinKing: Go
Doesn't the WTE come every Monday? What do you mean early?

Early: It was 1:00 AM here when it got posted.
Now, for my quick-before-I-have-to-study-more entry.

Ah, to heck with the WTE! I'm going to attempt to make the ugliest Zerus terrain you could ever imagine!
@HydraMannequin: Go
And, voila! The ugliest Zerus terrain I could whip up in 5 minutes.

Doesn't even look all that bad

Edit: I see your floating doodads.

A small, quick one for me this week.

If well done, there is no doubt it is possible to make a really nice melee map out of the Zerus terrain.
