Have you ever found yourself searching for hours in the doodads to find something you forgot the name of? Or just try to see what could be a nice touch to your terrain? Stop searching... I made the solution...
In the last days I've been working hard on a project of mine that might interest a few people. I did not spread the work alot until I had a good part done. So, right now I have all the WoL doodads in picture, every files are named (you could use the windows explorer to search) and on every pictures there is a text displaying their name as well. This is if I want to do "All in one" pictures.
I started the project 2 years ago but seriously, I just let it down because my old computer could not handle that much pictures. However, with my new comp, this is ez pz. I'm currently making the HotS doodads part.
Before I finish completly, by the time this get interests, I wanted to know who would like to use such pictures. I'll make image pack eventually and will probably make all in one pictures for faster sharing on the internet instead of downloading a total of 170Mo image pack...
So give me your impressions, and if you think this is interesting / could help a friend or whatever, spread the word because I'll get it done one way or another, for me or for the others. Personally, I will use this for sure.
Here is some example of what it looks like. Tell me your thoughts!
Everybody who has ever worked on creating a terrain would love to have this one. It'd have saved me soooooo much time when creating the terrain for my map... Amazing work.
This is exacly how I think the people would receive this project. I really hope this will get known, eventually. Once I'm done with HotS doodads, which basicly mean I'll be done, I'll upload and promote it as much as possible accross sc2mapster, battle.net and teamliquid. Even though the pictures I made are not perfect, they are much more usefull than going one by one. It gives rapidly a better overview of every doodads. :)
This is fantastic. I can't imagine how long this took you though. Either way I can't wait to see the HoTs additions and I will totally be using this from now on.
Um honestly, I did not calculated how many hours I passed on this, but I passed at least 2 full days and maybe 2-3 afternoon. Soo probably more than 20 hours... I don't know. But what I know is that I LOVE photoshop for its automatic fonction on a group of images. Without that automatic fonction it would have take me at least 5-10 more hours to set the name on the pictures... it took about 7-8 min. Haha!
So today I worked hard again and guess what... I finished HotS doodads too!!!!! F* YEAH! :D Now I just have to find a place where to upload the image pack (almost 300Mo... for 1170 pictures)
If anyone knows a good site where to upload such large files... or if mapster can handle it, that would be nice. The 10Mo limits would make it hard to share.
Now what stays is making All-In-One pictures for faster sharing and light weight not requiring any heavy download. But even that should not take "super" long as all pictures are ready. I just have to drag and drop until the psd is full of about 100 pictures. So that means 12 large pictures to show all the doodads.
The image pack would be for those who wants the pictures on their comp and search outside the editor. The All-in-one is all about easy sharing.
Hope you will all like. I hope I did not made ANY mistake in any file name... I know at least one picture has a selection circle -_- and some doesn't have shadows, but whatever. One out of a thousand is fine to me. Haha!
Ohh, this is perfect! Would save me a ton of time, since I go through all of the doodad list to see what would fit with the map, now it'd take me only a few minutes. Thanks so much! :D
I still wonder why this has not been done years ago... No one had ever the patience to do so? Or never though of doing that? Well, now I'm feeling proud of me, making alot of people save time is gratefull.
So when I get back from work today I'll try to find a place where to upload the image pack. Once again, if someone knows a good upload site or if mapster can upload 300Mo files, that would be nice. I don't think I'll upload 1 by 1 1170 pictures to mapster... eh xD
this looks like a wonderful thing, but does anyone know a good site to download a Gimp plugin for an rar. file opener? I am looking around and I don't want to click on any of the big flashy download here buttons that so often hold viruses and Trojans behind them.
Oh boy... you're pretty lost I think. rar files are compressed file, it's nothing related to Gimp. You need Winrar or Winzip or any compress program to decompress it.
Ok everyone, good news! I've been working tonight for making the All-in-one pictures...and only HotS part remain so I uploaded the WoL parts. I also uploaded the whole image pack (containing also HotS). The only bug is rar files are prohibited on mapster... so I changed the file extension to .rarr but... will the admins accept it? We shall see. Anyway, while waiting confirmation about the image pack, you can already access the all-in-one pictures here:

This is extremely helpful. Me and a couple of other guys were using doodad maps for reference but this will make it even easier than that!
