Hey hey everyone, (madlibrarian here) long time no speak. Thought I'd have a little practice with the new Kaldir tileset in HOTS.
Attached are some screenies of my work in progress so far - meant to be playable (not many triggers done, just enough to give a feel for it).
Points to note, the large crystals that appear fairly bland, in game, they're bright cyan and shiny. As well as that, the fog of war is black, so the areas you can't get to, can't be soon (hence the upper quadrants of the map may appear slightly more bland / less detailed - you simply won't be seeing them).
Anyway, I know there's plenty of talented terrainers out there, give me your critiques and what you'd do to improve it so far.
P.S. I'm looking for inspiration for an urban snow environment so if you've got some, hit me ;)
Welcome back Librarian! Why the new account? I'll have to remind myself you're him everytime you post now :P
Either way - it looks like someone's liking the ice cliff doodads. Overall I quite like what you've done, though some areas could use some more fluff - this seems like a really good basis for a very cliff-heavy region but some bits are too empty for a full terrain. It doesn't even matter too much what it is, as long as it's not just ice tentacles again.
Also, some cliff pieces don't connect as well. Primarily the ones in the dead middle of screenshot 1. There were more, but I can't seem to re-find them when scrolling through your screenshots again, so they probably weren't as bad.

Aha thank you very much :) and the new accounts because I can't for the life of me remember my old login details (been quite a while since I've had to login and on account of my other game accounts being hacked, so have had to change everything). I've found with that Kaldir tileset there isn't that many doodads that really go with it - city ones are all too neat and too clean (even if you add snow drifts etc., where they're not present it's still too shiny), and a lot of the ice/snow doodads seem a bit half-hearted and situation specific (Ice wave as an example). I'll have to tidy the cliffs up a bit (soooo many to keep track of) and go from there, see what I can make happen with a tileset that in my opinion, got only half its doodads.
Are you making a terran city such as Korhal or some Terran one on snow terrain or a protoss city? Snowy is my favorite terrain and although I have an idea what mine will look like, I could use even more ideas. I am recreating mine from war3 with custom models, but it will take time.

On my new PC it runs very smoothly, my old one can't even handle HOTS so can't really check it that way :P

Seems fair, I haven't really played with the Kaldir tileset much.
As for your account; I can reset your password for you if you want? Just toss me a PM.

First melee map I've made but it was for a custom mod called Starbow.
I tried experimenting with glaciers on man made cliffs, came out okay and useful as transition from man made to organic.
Blizz puts them at a lower height, not sure if I like that approach though.
