Thanks for the suggestions - I want to try to create a dense forrest feel. But maybe I'll test it with some more water and increased sizes to reduce the amount of trees.
You can try to select trees with allow of leaves, make it small in heigh, but larger in x,y. You can tint it too and place it near ground, it will fill alot of space and any hole in your forest. You could add plant cluster doodads. Try to really scale things up and down to get smaller and bigger trees and tint. I suggest you use also the pitch and roll to add a little more dynamic to the forest. You could also use the foliage brush to add a little more stuff automaticly for high end computers and foliage will not show up on certain graphic settings.
You could also hide doodads in region that are not visible or use something like the Dyanmic Terrain Editor to load dynamicly parts of the map.
Yeah increasing the size of the trees is a great idea. Warcraft III trees used up 2x2 space and they looked great. It's just a matter of what model you use and how you place them.

@TheAzureguy:
Good idea. As a reminder for people: you can change the default size of the doodad in the data panel.
@Demtrod: Go
