Hello. I'm working on a very simple single player campaign and I have done all three missions' terraining same way. (Mar Sara textures) I'm not good at terraing yet so what you suggest me to do for this map to improve it?
As you can see it looks very "empty". I have used only Mar Sara Sand and Mar Sara Cracked Dirt on cliffs. I know that I should add something to that sand. I have tried to add Mar Sara Rocky but I just don't know how I should add it to make it look good. I think Rocky looks good while its red like other rocks in Mar Sara.
I hope you understand what I'm saying :) So what you should do to improve a terrain like this?
I don't want to use many trees either because I think wasteland should not have many trees. I have used mostly rocks, cactus and some plants to fill map. I also use lot of natural mountains to fill map.
My map is also flat at the moment so I should add some hills and holes?
I'm trying to invent some method to fill my map because I'm propably going to make all missions using Mar Sara textures while campaign happens on same planet / zone.
Basicly I have only decided to use Sand and Cracked Dirt as main textures.

mix the terrain up, dont just use one terrain brush on one level. the top of teh cliffs don't look natural as there terrain suddenly changes. try and mix it in, other than that a few more doodading around the places, rocks at the bottom of cliffs.
But the main eyesore to me atm is the one brush terrain :)
idd texturing the terrain is one of the most important things. try using a size 4-6 fragment brush with rocky texture on the cliffs. also try using size 16 brush and just click once random places with rocky/sand/dirt/cracks texture. It needs to be a bit messy to be beautiful!
1. Raise some places more into the air, so they look like small sand hills.
2. As above mentioned, you really need to use more texture variations, just random painting is the most time enough.
3. Use more doodads, as dried trees or brown bushes etc.
Anyways it looks pretty fine right now, I expected something worser than that^^
I'll second the part about doodads. A few dried/dead trees and shrubs is better than none, just don't overuse. And bones, tumble weed, sand storm effects, and light rays. There's plenty of things you can still add.
