Since the upcoming two weeks are going to be both christmas and new year's (and whatever other holidays you might participate in), I'm assuming most of you will be too busy for a serious WTE. Perhaps you might find you have some spare time on your hands though, and if you feel like terraining then why not make a terrain about "The Holidays". Whether it's a christmassy snow theme or a Terran new year's celebration, knock up something good. Or don't! Either way, I'll be seeing you guys again on the 6th of January.
I'll be around, but in case you miss me: happy new year, happy holidays and enjoy the next two weeks, folks! Also: GL & HF!
And little suggestion about your saving problem; when you start a new map, save it right away, even if it has nothing. Then, as you place stuff on it like every few minutes or major changes, just Ctrl+S. And not long after Ctrl+S, and again Ctrl+S... keep pressing Ctrl+S, always! And this is for any program. You're working with photoshop? Any html editor? or whatever? Ctrl+S! This will save you as it saved me many times. I just constantly save... like, I would place few doodads, zoom out and look how it looks, and automaticly in that break I'll press Ctrl+S... I do that so often that when a program crash I'm like "Oh nooo I've lost my work.... but, when is the last time I saved?" I open it again, and I lost nothing except maybe the few last changes. "Ouufff!!" So just, keep, always, pressing, Ctrl+S, since the beginning.
I got used to do that by my own experience of losing stuff... I've always had some shitty computer so... I don't trust them and I just save as much as possible.
Well, hokey goals, just take a bunch of super tiny pipe or whatever and create the goal with many doodads :P Also, are there any kind of estrade (place where people sit and watch the game)? That would fill the empty spot behind the panels.
I don't have whatever texture pack you are using so I don't know if this is possible but is there a texture that looks more like ice because I find the one you are using looking more like snow packed together, otherwise your map is awesome.
I know it's not much but I figure I'll start my new year's resolution early and participate more in the WTEs and work this up real quick. I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas!
Well since I had this already mostly worked up I thought I'd share it. It's for a game me and a friend or mine have been working on lately. It's accurate up to about 3 feet. I plan on adding people to those stands but since their animation makes them float up and down it's been a major pain. Otherwise I think it looks pretty good.
I'm stuck with WoL for now so I don't really have any to work with. But I think you're right they would look better. I had to play with the lighting a lot just to get it to look as decent add it does now.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #153
Hey there people!
Since the upcoming two weeks are going to be both christmas and new year's (and whatever other holidays you might participate in), I'm assuming most of you will be too busy for a serious WTE. The Global Information/Idea thread for Terraining Exercises can be found here:

I had this idea, its not really terraining but it kind of is, so get ready to be mind blown (not really but still).
Ladyes and gentelmen, I present the new SC2 race... the christmates ( they look bad but i wanted to make somthing before christmas and found it fun).
note:Editor crashed >< lost the map (i need to learn to save)

Hah, that's amazing. Gave me a bit of a chuckle. Good work!

Hahahaha! Nice work!

Well, hopefully you will too start to do that ;)

Completely agree with the whole 'Ctrl+S' thing; I usually instinctively save like that repeatedly, without having actually made any changes.
I found a save of my map but its missing 30 minutes, anyways, I got bored so I made a badass christmas killing machine. Enjoy
Note: Merry Christmas guys :)
unrelated question: Is this WTE for 2 weeks like the holidays are here or still one ??
Small icehockey arena.
Used mostly:
- Hots Military Fence Straight
- Security Fence Diagonal
- Floodlight
- Billboard
- Decal
- Hockey stick (unit)
I did not find any good doodad for hockey goal.

I like the fact that your creations are made of light. It has something interesting. :P

Ya well, light is the closest thing to snow so thats what i use unless anyone knows anything better.

i know there are several ice textures, but most, if not all, are cracked ice, so that probably wouldn't look very good for a hockey rink.

Nice! :P
About the ice texture, I think I would use some ice doodads instead which have a much better looking ice and maybe even reflective or translucent.
