Hello folks. I'm new to all this, and could not quite get what I had in my head to translate but since I did not get my mountain submission finished in time I figure I might as well submit what I did end up with for this week.
My idea for a place of worship was a memorial to the brave Marines who fought and died protecting the citizens of a planet that had come under attack from the Zerg. It's kind of a play on the idea of hero worship. The vidscreen is supposed to be scene of the marines escorting a transport truck to the evacuation site while the city lies in ruin. I placed the setting onboard the transport ship, a memorial thrown together by the evacuee's to honor the memory of those who died so they might live.
I would have liked putting a giant Dominion flag behind the marine statue, or the symbol on the ground really big, but I could not find a way to make that happen. If anyone has figured that one out please let me know.
I love the idea that you thought of, the only critisism i would say, well not really critisism more a suggestion, is lower the hill where the temple lies, and add something to the top of the temple, in most maya'n temples you see alters or sacrificial pits at the top of them, i think that would really make the temple look amazing.
I also think adding some atmosphere, with fog effects or weather effects would be good aswell as some lighting.
But overall great idea :D
Thanks for the tipps. So, heres my improved version. I figured that I suck when it comes to the creation of weather effects (will learn it soon though) however I changed the angle of the camera and created an altar on the top. Also I changed the lightning so it looks like a sunset.
The previous camera angle was so much better.
No idea what you did with the lightning, but it looks kinda messed up, I can't figure out from which direction the sun light is supposed to come. And the blue sky doesn't really indicate a sunset either.
Your camera angle in the first pick was epic :D You picked it just right there. But now as already said it looks strange.
I need to admit that I like your waterfall.
Well I changed it so you can look ontop of the pyramid.
I think that both versions got theire flair - as always its probably a matter of tast (I dont know if thats a proper english translation :D )
Here is mine: It's not that great though, best I could do!
Looks nice.
Tips:
Blend more then 1 grass texture
Use foliage around trees and maybe lower them a tad.
Deform the ground to give definition.
Also maybe use a dash of mist/fog
I'm really new to Terrain, I am more experienced in the data editor and triggers then terrain. I really don't know how to make mist/fog or deform...I know how to do the textures and foilage though! But forgout about the foilage. D;
Play with the terrain tab. You have varying types of deforming tools to get the terrain uneven.
The mist and rain etc is just doodads. In the map editor, they look like a circle spray panted on the ground with an arrow and a bit of cloud in the spray painted picture.
In game, this ground Icon turn into your mist or rain.
You can also press V to go into game view mode to see how it looks in game.

Some Terran science team just discovered "A Place of Worship" ;-) I was inspired by Avatar's holy tree concept. Enjoy.

Very sorry for the upcoming stupid question.
