Good evening again folks! With another monday, here's another WTE! This week's theme is going to be "Cave Entrance", following an idea Scbroodsc2 came up with. I'm going to do more with his original concept next week (which can be found in the Global Information/Idea thread, post #93), but for this week I'd like to see how you all fair in creating a simple cave entrance. No restrictions, no rules, just take it as you please.
Hehe, this will be funny and probably interesting. I hope some people will make a cave be super special and uber detailled haha. Nah not that much. We'll see ;)
Cheers Neb, been a while. Figured this was quite a nice WTE and thought I'd give it a (admittedly slightly sub-par) go. We going to see an entry from yourself this week at all?
Probably not. I've got a gargantuan terraining project for an FPS. I have to make an entire Battlecruiser, with an interior. It might take about a month.
Finally found enough time/focus/creativity to come back from my terraining break... but I think I went a little crazy on the environment/lighting effects.
It is supposed to depict the generic "evil-do'er's" lair on an island; added a laser-destruco-cannon jutting out of the mountain on the left side... which would be used for future world domination =P.
What that needs is some kind of large round black entrance to make the laser seem less 'sticking-out-of-the-mountain'. Try one of those pipes, enlarged and made thinner.
Thanks Mozared, you were right, looked kinda ghetto sticking out of the mountain side like that lol. I added a pipe like you suggested, hopefully in the way in which you intended; if not, I still think it looks much better than it did before. Also stuck some smaller pipes on the side to make the "big-pipe-look" less monotonous.
I like that you've given yours much more of a grand scale (my two cave entrances are dinky and less ambitious). I find myself wishing the marine in the second picture next to the sandbags was manning that bi-gun turret that is in the campaign facing the exit of the cave, but I also like big guns =P. Also, some sort of supporting beams like the Space Platform Sign Towers would look cool scattered around the interior of the cave I think, just an idea.
That bridge is awesome, I wish I had known about the existence of that sooner... I wanted to put a curved one in the lava jungle WTE we did a while back but I couldn't think of a way to make that flattened log path!
My apologies for the fat all-in-one post lol. Here's the laser gun with the new metal sheath:
Foxtail, I'm liking some of the smaller details on that map (Scorch marks beneath the cannons end - nice touch). You do love window boards don't you :P! Saying that though, I'll touch up the interior of the cave now, add some supporting beams etc. good shout sir.
"Pretty well done Sir. Few more dynamites and everything will be our!"
Very good terrain there, like you always do ;) I think, to have a better looking, you could modify the textures on the ground. I mean by this, you could change the texture around the gate building, around the trees, around the sandbags, make truck wheel marks on the ground, etc. Look at your screenshot, and think, compare with real life, what should it looks like, "there are sand bags, ok, but who placed that? The Marine ok, where they walked to place them? Could the sand raise around the sandbag because it block the wind? Could there be footsteps? etc" Some very small details that could make it looks much better =)
Here is my try for this WTE. When I posted the idea in the other thread, I was seeing something like what I just done. The idea I wanted to experiment is hiding ground cells and make a real underground while units could move over. The result is pretty interesting. I only focussed on that so nothing much around the cave itself.
I've trying been trying to experiment with the same sort of thing for awhile, my intention was to make a huge map of custom buildings that had higher floors as well as basements for use as a zombie/shooter/etc. map with all levels walk-able. However, it's on hold due to my shatty habit of using too many doodads. So as of now I'm waiting for the moment in which I can swallow my pride, remove some of the detail, and continue onward =/.
Here's some screenshots of it if you're interested, although it's so very far from done or polished (i.e there are no roofs yet):

Working on projects:
Thought I'd get the ball rolling. Newly started mining operation on an alien moon.
Here's mine, turned out a bit darker then i wanted too.

Looks quite nice. I'm glad to see you terraining again; I like your terrains a lot.

Here's a screenshot of the exterior so far.

@SheogorathSC: Go Would the wooden bridge be walkable?

That looks pretty sick already, what percentage done is that in the photo? Definitely looking forward to seeing the end product.

That looks bad. ass.
Finish that off it'll be absolutely sick!

Yeah I like window boards too much, just imagine my reaction when I saw the big ones in your terrain. =P

It's about 20% done. I've made the whole back of the exterior and most of the back interior.

are all of those walkable? damnnn ur good :D
do you have an estimate or an exact amount of doodads u used to create them? There's a chance Far Clip is lagging your game if its not that big :P
How were you planning on doing that?
my thoughts exactly.
