Under the Terrain Types data type you can set a skybox model. Has anyone ever tried to texture swap it? If not I might have to experiment to see if model events can be used for a direct texture swap.
Edit: Nevermind. Just make a custom terrain type and set the Fixed Skybox Actor to a Model type actor. This can be texture swapped as normal and even respond to game events using a global reference. Seems to bug if using a SOp (Rotator) though.
Having issues swapping some of the textures for the VC_Zeratul1_Sky because it uses the same texture for three of the four layers. The last layer seems to only do brightness but without colour.

i'm still a virgin with skybox/lighting etc .. :) and i'm eager to reach the time when i get to it (i'm on units dds now :D and that's tripping enough for a life time.. )
.. i'd love an animated version to see what it feels like when the camera moves within the texture <3
Played around a little more with skyboxes and seems you need to use a Doodad type actor for the not fixed skybox. Here is how my latest attempt turned out.

Well, here is the map I messed around with. I think you could even use .ogv files to make animated backgrounds (think space battle).
