About that lottery, i must yet think how it could work.
Maybe write a game in flash, which will randomly pick numbers and save them as highscores? Like this:
_ktilkath_ 8 l 56 l 4 l 62 l 26 l 5 l 32 l 64_
And make a picture of listed textures and numbers corresponding to them (see attachment)
We just need someone who can write it, and set it somewhere.
I thought about possible use of texture mixes in WTEs and came up with this:
1: Make terrain while using odd lighting, like ultralisk portrait. :) Can use any texture(s) pack.
2: Remake the typical terrain from SC, or Warcraft (ex: badlands tileset from SC). It will include the textures mix, lighting work and terrain arrangement.
I have an unfinished terrain that a friend kindly donated. It is a cortex terrain, meaning, so long as it is in the "theme" of the terrain, and so long as players have sufficient space to move around, almost anything goes. The terrain's structure is done, so all that will need to be done is textures, doodads, and points of interest. It is a really nice concept, and the structure is very good. He wanted me to finish it, however I have several other projects that require my full attention. Basically, it could make for an interesting JTE. Anyone who participates would be fully credited, and the map would be published as a cortex map.
The terrain is a massive tree. That is, it is set on top of a massive tree. This might sound strange, but I think a look at what he has done will really motivate some cool ideas. I will send a copy via PM.
Ok, hum, I don't think this is the exact right place to post this, but, it could be. I want to make another video; of course, we never end making some :) The thing is that I would like some help for the triggers and possibly the terrain. I wont show my timeline, but I can make you hear the song. Depending of what happend, if someone want to help me, we could make a terraining for my video. It will mostly sure, be a kind of big city, great sky, cars, civilans, etc. The one that get the closer of my idea will be taken and possibly modified to make it works for my video. And the one that will help me for the triggers will know the timeline and what I want to do etc.
So, this could be a video signed Sc2Mapster (if I can have the short clip that shows the logo in the begenning) Every names of every person that will have work on the clip will be show at the end. I hope to make this, my best cinematic ever made =P
Here is my idea for further WTE: "Blizzard's WTE" =D
Probably that some of you noticed that Blizzard made some tutorials... for those who don't, bah, now you know! So, I propose to do the Blizzard's tutorial and we compare our maps =P It is a good time for those who don't know how works the Terrain module to start using it.
Also, for those who want to continute their map, you can look at the Trigger tutorial and start using some triggers to get a playable map with objective and things like that. xD
Was foolin' around in the editor as usually when i placed the terrain object Port Zion crusher and a the doodad Valhalla aircraft elevator over it and managed with some scaling fit those into eachother then i came up with my WTE idea (might be horrible stupid but =P):
"Odd couples" (Feel free to rename it =D) Basically to atlest combine one doodad and one terrain object from diffrent tilesets and build a terrain around it or something. Even more basically just combine something unexpected and turn it in to something else (Or w/e).
I got an idea for us, what about using no doodate? Yeah I know, we've done that before... but, allowing the use of units and Terrain Object. Into the Campaign there is alot of units used as a doodate, so if we look through them carefully, we could make something pretty nice without doodate. With the addition of Terrain Object, it could be great too and we won't see always the same doodate model. Use destructibles units like trees to put trees instead of the doodate tree, put destructible light, etc. Use units as doodate. =D
First off, happy anniversary to the WTE! I think it's a great way to encourage map-makers and share ideas. I've been really impressed with the responses I've seen to previous exercises. You guys can do better designs in a week than I could do in a year.
I have a custom map that I think would be a good candidate for it. I just launched my first map called Nuke Tac Toe, which is basically a tic-tac-toe game using nukes. You can see a video of it here: http:www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwNngVEnqe4
Thing is, since map design and terraining isn't my strong suit I mainly focused on the coding of the gameplay for this first version. You can see that the terrain design is basically non-existant, other than the 9 squares that make up the 3x3 grid.
The reasons I think this would make a good weekly exercise are:
- The maps would be really small, with only the 3x3 grid of small "squares" (they don't have to be square), each of which has a size of 11 in my version. They need to be small so the overhead camera view can fit the whole grid.
- The squares don't need a lot of detail, since there needs to be a relatively open space in each one for the units to fight in, and the X or O to display on.
- There are a lot of possible concepts for a 3x3 grid of squares: space station (like my lame design), jungle islands, lava pits, cityscapes, etc.... The possibilities are endless.
Tree blend! WTE will be wrapped around mixing trees of every tileset together to create natural looking forest. You can make trees of one kind smaller and attach them to other trees, or change color, you can change every option in the doodad menu(the one that is showing up once you double-click a doodad). We can count in foliage(?) and other foresty doodads. Just tossing an idea, maybe someone will have some better ones that could use mine or to make mine clearer/simplier/more entertaining. :)
What about a WTE that ask everybody to take another WTE of his choice, do his creation and then the other person who participate to the WTE try to find wich one that person tryed to create.
So, everybody that missed WTE or want to redo one they liked caus they still have nice ideas, they can. And it will be fun to find what everyone made. I think xD
I think you should tell Roar_Man to stop slacking and let us know whether he wants to be on Mapcraft already =P.
I like the idea though - some kind of fluorescent planet similar to that useless crystal-forest zone in Northrend from WoW (forgot the name) might be interesting to try and recreate.
As a note to self; Keyes suggested "where was Bin Laden hiding?" earlier and I thought that was pretty cool. Nice amount of comical possibility there. Might do that next week.
I'm not sure is this idea enough for WTE but I had fun when I opened some campaign maps and swapped tilesets, doodads and so on. For example make last mission (All in) to Agria tileset instead.

A before and after would be a SICK WTE. But, um, maybe you could have made a better choice in examples.
I liked the idea myself. Tomorrow's WTE will be uploaded later than normal, but I'll still do it. Will probably do the before and after theme, too.
I have the perfect idea, where do you think Bin Laden was hiding. Now we know where he was but just be funny to see where people think he was.

Trigger tutorial http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/maps-and-mods/tutorials/trigger/
Main page http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/maps-and-mods/
There is also two more tutorials, one for publishing, that will not really be usefull for WTEs, one for Missile movers, what is a bit complicated.
I'm still looking for help for my video though. I wont be able to do a video as epic as the song without help xD

A exercise lottery, pick two numbers, 1-45, and then you will have to combine those two exercises into a new one...
@SheogorathSC:
Like that one as well. Thanks, this'll keep me going for a bit!
But some exercises will contradict each other so you'll have to put in SOME thought into that one.
