Hello again you staunch terrainers! After 199 exercises, the WTE is still going strong and we've finally reached the mighty 200 mark! In celebration, I'd like to do something we also saw at the 100 mark: "Further ahead the road has gone". The idea is that you folks pick any subject from the last 199 WTE's and make a terrain corresponding to that theme. Others get to guess which number it is. In the weeks to follow, we'll have some more enticing themes as the WTE slowly drudges forward.
Pats on the back all around, and thumbs up if you've been here since #1. Keep up the joy, and good luck this week!
4 and a half years later, somehow this train is still chugging along :) I will see if I have the time to make something, it is the 200th one after all, and we might even get another 100 terrian celebration vid that I have been looking forward to!
Yup, because of the work of some of us as workers and the wonderfull work of Mozared as a driver, the train still moves forward and will still move until it reaches lack of electricity (because eh oh its an eletric train!). It will go on and on!
And for the moment, some folk rock music Rolling Home!
I'll see what I can do.... but it would not be in the galaxy editor, it will be in the Starparty DTE :D because any terrain i can make i'll try to spend it for the DTE.
Man I wish I had gathered all the maps/images/videos required to make an awesome epic monstruous cinematic for WTE 200...
Alright I've did something... I aimed for doing a terrain variation for Shot Bomb Blast minigame. Here is how it turned out. Btw, this is also based on another WTE that you have to guess ;)
I guess WTE 164 works too... but I though about WTE 172: Pick A Colour. It's pretty much the same but more generally. :P The idea was to really create a weird never seen protoss-ish blue terrain, if thats a way to describe it.
It's really cool working with pitch and roll and color in the DTE because it's much easier to set rapidly and precisely than in the galaxy editor. For example for the color I have 4 sliders for Red Green Blue HDR and it works quite well. :P
I feel this would look a lot better if you continued that rockline all around the edge of the map. Make the base feel like it was placed in some sort of valley, maybe even with lava coming down on all sides and surrounding the island it's on. Right now it feels a bit odd that the rocks suddenly end. I like this a lot in general, though!
Is it 'WTE #140 - The Great Wall', by any chance? Or else maybe 148 or 185?
On and off, yeah. Some people show up here and use the WTE to showcase terrains of playable maps they are already making. Some people make a WTE terrain and end up using it for a map. We've also had WTEs where the objective was to create a playable terrain for an existing map/mod. I've always planned to use the result of a JTE to make a playable map, but shamefully that has never panned out the way I wanted it to. The vast majority of WTE-related content is just showcases, though.
what a waste!
seriously you should create something for all available terrains (free use), so ppl like me browse through all within 5 minutes (dont wanna open all wte) and just select (download) one. i really dont like to spend my time with terraining.
for example a board of images , and a click on the image will download the terrain. that would be awesome.
Most of the terrains does not have map linked. We'd have to ask the person who made the map if he has the mapfile still. A long while ago I made a video showing WTE 1 to 100 to showcase the best terrains. It was quite cool. But this year if I ever get in the mood of doing so, I wish to get as many map as I can, set up a camera system and record all terrains in a cinematic way instead of just images. Also, instead of doing a short 3-4min cinematic for something as big as one fu...ing hundred WEEKly terrainning exercise, it has to be longer. It CANNOT be short to showcase so many terrains, it just can't. Yeah I should really start gathering pictures and maps... Gotta do it for the love of Starcraft.
A board of images to give ideas would be quite interesting yes... but most of them would not have map linked.
